I am looking at swapping the current 17 inch standard 2011 FL2 GS wheels for some advertised off an Evoque.

The advert reads Evoque Style 5 Alloy Wheels:

Fronts and rears 8J, Offset: ET45 - Part numbers: LR028119

2 tyres are 235/55/19 GoodYear EfficientGrip SUV 4X4 M+S 105V

both at 7mm, so nearly new

2 tyres are 235/55/19 Continental Cross contact 105V M+S

one tyre is as new, and one tyre has just about 6mm, so very good


Is this just a straight swap or am I tempting troubles. We tow a horse trailer so dont want any issues.

Straight swap. No issues at all. fL2 wheels are around ET54, where as Evoque average ET45-ET47, so although the wheels will sit out slight, there will be no adverse effects.

I run 20" Evoque wheels on mine and tow without any issues at all. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

Just changed my FL2 17's for Evoque 20" wheels this week.
Because of the different offset they do sit slightly more proud than the FLs.
But for me that's no bad thing as I prefer the slightly broader stance it gives the car.

Make sure you get a pic up when you swap. FL2 now gone and have a couple of items left for sale:-

Brodit active iPhone holder + Brodit dash clip,
Bluetooth Music Streaming Module.

but the 'skinny' evoque tyres look a tad naff on an fl2  At work

on the same theme I have just bought some 18" evoque alloys as above with 235 60 18 tyres

Any advice on whether the standard 17" spare with 235 65 17 is compatible to run with the 18's (if I get a puncture too serious to quick fix with tyre weld)

Are the diameters compatible for sure or do I need an 18" spare

The 17 inch spare wheel will be fine only about 2mm different.

You should normally try and be within a 3% variance in rolling radius.
This mix is 0.26% so absolute minimal.
Just normal tread wear from new to old is going to be outwith that. FL2 now gone and have a couple of items left for sale:-

If the tyres on your Freelander are 235 60 18 then these have just a 2mm (0.27%) difference in diameter than the 235 65 17 tyre and hence should be OK to get you home. However do be aware if the tread is different from what you have on the other wheels you could end up heating up the rear differential, so it should only be used in an emergency

I wanted 20s ideally but a set popped up yesterday in 18s in new condition with new Pirelli Verde tyres for £300 so couldn't resist!

I'm not so sure the 'LR specialist' is correct in this case, based on the fact that LR actually supply cars with spare tyres a different size from those on the car. I.e. my own car has 235/65 17 tyres, but the steel spare was supplied with a 225/65 17 tyre. So personally I wouldn't worry about heating the diff! (Or the Haldex, which has temperature monitoring built in and will automatically disengage if it detects overheating.)
