Hi Guys,

Looking at my current tyres its looking like I will be needing to replace them in the next 2- 3 months, when I bought the car it was shod with Nankang Eco Green Sport tyres, I have covered about 6k in the 12 months I have had the car and recon theres about 2k left on them.

To be fair they havent been bad but they wont be getting replaced with the same as they are not good on muddy fields and I would feel safer and happier with a better quality tyre.

So I am looking for new tyres I know allot like the Perelli scorpion verde ( all season ) but I am looking at the General Grabber AT as I want a good all rounder that will cope with most things, ie normal road use, good on muddy fields, reasonably good in snow if we get any this winter so I can at least get to my house and park on the drive. Car has 235/55/19's so I know I cab get GG AT to fit. Also I see they have two load index's one at 101 and the other at 105 (XL) which would you recomend?

Has any one got them fitted who can give there view, I read some stuff on the D3 forums were most liked them but were skittish on semi damp greasy roads, I dont drive it like a sports saloon its to heavy for that so I wont be throwing it into bends.

I was going to the grabbers fitted but went for the mitchelin lattidude cross in the end and have been pleased so far.

Since no one seems to have the 19" Grabber ATs I'll pass comment on my 17" versions (235/65 17 108H).

A good all-rounder was exactly what I wanted, as I do occasionally venture off tarmac, and the Grabber AT has not disappointed. Sure, it's not as good on road as a dedicated road tyre, but that's to be expected of an AT, and its on-road performance isn't bad by any means. For moderate off-road conditions they're excellent, although I can't comment on performance in snow as, being up in the Pennines, I have dedicated winter tyres for the white stuff.

If I ever manage to wear them out I'll be replacing with the same again.

The General GT gets good reports but is really a road biased tyre, will give them a coat of looking at when mine need replacing before winter. FL2 SD4 Metropolis Auto Santorini Black / ivory completely stock.

It's true that light travels faster than sound, some people look quite intelligent until you hear them speak.

I replaced my original Scorpions ( 27,000 mls ) with Scorpions again.

although not really happy with the 27K as I expected about 40K, I feel they are a good all round tyre, but I do not go off road so can only comment on tarmac use.

cost me £560 in total for the four fitted.

I have Michelin Latitudes on mine and have been pleased so far. 17000 miles and still have around 6-7mm left.

I kept the wheels and tyres from my last FL2.

However, one thing worth considering. I have not bought new tyres for 8 years. When my tyres are down to about 2.5/3mm I buy a new set of wheels and tyres from places like ebay and sell on the old ones. Makes more financial sense.

For example, on my old 19's I had just under 3mm left and was quoted £840 for 4 new 235 55 19" Continental Cross Contacts fully fitted and balanced.

So it bought a brand new set of Evoque 20's with Michelin Latitudes for £950. Fitted them and sold the 19's on ebay for £590.

So the over all outlay was £360 and I got brand new wheels and tyres.

My father in law just did a similar thing for his XF, bought a brand new set of the same design wheel and his overall outlay was just £420 instead of a £1000 for 4 new tyres.

We are lucky because LR's are built in the UK. This is because there will always be a supply of brand new wheels and tyres on the used market as LR order wheels and tyres from suppliers in bulk, and if they are not fitted during production within 3 months, they are sold off as they are not allowed to fit tyres over three months old to new cars.

I will go with Goodyear Wrangler again for my third set as each time they have been good for 40,000+ miles.
They are not cheap but I'm afraid you only get what you pay for.
I suppose it helps that i don't drive as if I have just nicked the car. Tattoos - Why would you choose to look like the wall of a public toilet?

Renewed the front tyres on Friday with Goodyears again.

If the vast majority of your miles are to be driven on roads then I don't see the AT tyres as being the best choice. A Mud and Snow rated road biased tyre such as the Goodyear Wrangler or Efficient Grip will be adequate for occasional muddy/grassy field driving and snow but be a better tyre for dry and wet roads where your chances of needing to bet your life on your tyres are higher. AT tyres are also not best suited to snow and ice despite the more aggressive tread pattern.

Have many customers running the General GT on F2 with great feedback.  Andy.
