About to buy a new FL2- or should I wait for new model ?

Hi everyone,
I would like to buy a new Metropolis, but I am concerned about the depreciation once the new discovery sport is released. I am being offered £3,000 discount. I understand it will drop, but hopefully not off a cliff ?
I would probably look to part-ex it for the new model in 6 to 12 months- I do quite a high mileage so don't keep them too long.
I know its a bit of a 'crystal ball' job, but any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated as I

Or... should I wait ?

Scotland 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis LE Auto Firenze Red

I have a metropolis on order . I bought because I think it will hold it's value . If the DS doesn't come up to scratch and let's face it the first year models are going to have freelander engine and gearbox the metropolis might become a very sought after car.

2015 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto Santorini Black

I purchased a brand new Metropolis and have had it for 2 weeks now and was the best decision I have made, especially compared to other cars and also for re sale value due to a limited amount of Metropolis made and also those that buy a new DS and realise it's not as good I'm sure will come back to a Metropolis. Even Hunters Land Rover agreed.

Get one and I can assure you that you won't regret it.

Thanks for the reply, and I am really pleased you are happy with yours.
I feel a lot more confident with my decision now.

I'm in a HSE LUX, metropolis in all but name, very happy with it and given the forthcoming DS will have the same engine but more than likely a basic spec for the same money, I am more than happy and will be keeping this one quite a while. It's on a PCP so during the lease time or at the end I can decide whether the time is right and whether the residual makes sense.

Everything seems to point to a new metropolis.
Thanks for your post.

I believe the manufacturers 'engineer' this situation a little, fuels the interest for the sheeple and keeps prices up.
A story saying LR dealers overflowing with the new DS and need clients doesn't work, remember how many cars Halewood can chuck out a day!
Next Halewood trip will be interesting Thumbs Up

I think that tight supply of the new Discovery Sport will help keep residuals afloat for the foreseeable future. Even though the FL2 is nothing more than a niche player here in the USA, I was surprised by how well my 2012 held value, and I have enough faith in the FL2 that I just picked up my new 2015 model this afternoon!

I was thinking along the same lines when the new Range Rover sport comes along second hand values of the old RRS model will plummet & I will snap one up, it just did not happen Big Cry

Most interesting. I think that keeping the suply slightly behind the demand, whether new or old model is protecting the values.

The price of new Freelanders will drop like a stone, no one wants an out of production car unless they are cheap. Second hand values will also drop. Remember the old Freelander 1's? They even tried giving them away with zero per cent finance.

Prices and bumph on the Discovery Sport will be out on 3rd September, they will be priced starting circa £25-£30k. There is dispute about what engine will be in it. I've heard it will be the Jag engine, another that the FL one will be in it for the initial 18 months. No one knows.

First ones to take to the road will be in January 2015

Interesting how you say 'they will drop like a stone' under what figures are you backing up your statement with? I have heard the complete opposite from Land Rover. Who would want to buy the new Discovery when a top of the range HSE LUX, is going to be over £50,000?

You might as well spend the extra £15,000 and get a Discovery XXV.

Ben, it's in the light of having owned nothing but Land rovers for the last 20 years and changing them every couple of years.

Is it a prediction? yes most definitely, same as your opinion, neither of us has figures to back it up one way or the other as you well know, how can we? who's right is the question and only time will tell you that one.

As even the OP said, "it's a crystal ball job..." But the fact he has been offered a substantial discount points towards prices running down to get rid of old stock before the DS arrives. Mind you if I'd just spend out good money on one, I'd try to argue the toss rather than accept I'd just made a decision to buy old stock that will cost me money when I go to get rid of it. I suspect that's the knub of your argument.
