I think the value of good cars rarely drops like a stone even when they are replaced with a glitzy new model.
And the FL2 is just that - a good car. The trade knows FL2's are desirable, Joe public can recognize a popular British built success story and a fair number of punters will be wanting to scoop up a nearly new FL2 while the more affluent (and those happy to accept new model risk premium) join waiting lists for the replacement. Dealer discount is not directly affected by the second hand market - Dealers simply look at the discount available to punters via an internet non franchised dealer sale and they then go a little bit towards that discount to deter the shopper form cutting them out. As stock reduces the discount available on the net will diminish but main dealers always have margin to give a sweetener of some sort if they think the customer is savy and there is a sales target within reach.
Some Landrover products have frankly been poor vehicles which were hard to shift - that is not the case here. The Disco Sport may do well but for some time the used car market generally will be happy to handle good FL2s without having a price dump.

Given the probable waiting time for a new one, it will be a good 12-18 months before used Discovery Sports start to trickle onto the used market. If the Evoque is anything to go by, the discount for used vs new will be minimal and thus out of the price range of people like me who buy used Land Rovers. Like all cars Freelander 2's depreciate but I doubt the DS will affect the used value of the FL2 by anything more than £1-2k for at least the next 24-36 months. I also think the DS is aimed more at Evoque drivers than people like you and I who prefer the more rugged look of the Freelander 2. The last Freelander 1's still fetch good money 8 years on!

Got our new FL2 in March this year , will keep 3 yrs and have a good look at the DS then , we only do about 8000mls per year so we may keep it if we cant afford to change as both retired by then .
