the results of the testing doesnt mean the car is reliable, just not unreliable enough to be a disaster.

Well let's statistically analyse the data put forward by LR:

1.2m kms = 750,000 miles.
And 11,720 tests recorded to date.
So that equates to 64 tests per mile.

Now it is more rationable to assume that LR just doesn't use 1 vehicle to establish their test results' database. Therefore it is reasonable to determine that they have used more than one DS, and, to project that some vehicles survive for a greater or lesser time/mileage period throughout the reported test. For ease of "rounding" (a generally used principle in presenting test data for the general public rather than a specialist scientific community) conject that the DS test fleet over this test phase has consumed some 100 vehicles, then the data would look like this:

DS Test Fleet = 100
Per Vehicle:
Distance tested - 7,500 miles (12,000kms)
Tests on Vehicle - 117
Test per Mile- 0.64

Now is that sufficient and decisive - or insufficient and inconclusive. You decide

testing a citroen DS will prove nothing here,

The new LR product will have faults all cars do but hopefully for me as a potential buyer, the work force of JLR and the british economy it wont have enough faults to make us all buy German or Korean. that includes you Mr Shilen splitter At work

Oh yes it will - it is a fun car to drive over these mountain hairpins
But - not a fun car to own - according to a neighbour whose car it is. Spends too much time in the dealer's workshop

They do it every Harvest time, you know this

normally breakdown and order the parts before 4 pm and they are delivered to your dealer for 8:30 the next morning. very impressive,
this time the computer says 29th Aug delivery. luckily another 2 dealers have the required parts in the uk so late monday early tuesday they will be in my sweaty little hands.
the name of the parts needed , frying pans strange but true, I did contemplate trying the local morrisons

I'm surprised the Discovery Sport it having the FL2 engine at launch - seems almost half measure to me as once the new engine is launched the early models will be unpopular. Did LR get the timing wrong - were they expecting the plant at Wolverhampton to be up and running?

Your assuming that the vast majority of LR owners have the faintest idea of whats under the bonnet. They dont. Most people who buy one as a lifestyle car will never look under, never mind have any clue about what the mechanical or performance differences might be. Its not as if one can even fathom what the fuel consumption difference might be as most rational folk know the numbers are unachievable!? 2010 Sport LE Lago Grey

Doesn't look anything like a Discovery does it?

It slopes in from the sides in a very Freelander way.
It doesn't have a raised roof line.
In fact, it seems to be a new Freelander in every design clue.

To me the D3 onwards lost the classic look of a Discovery 1 + 2.
They kind of look like vans from certain angles and I was not inspired to buy one,
keeping my 2002 D2 until quite recently.

The F2 though was, in my view, a massive improvement in so many ways over old Freelander1.
I hope this will be another great step forward for the Freelander but it ain't a Disco to me.

At the moment, I don't like the look of the front break over angle and am not a fan of the squashed roof line either. It just looks like all the other 4 x 4 soft roaders out there by Kia, etc.

In fact, the more I look at it the more I want a F2

No, they won't. So don't take any notice of what these photoshop journalists bang on about....they are likely to be way off-beam. How these magazines survive is anyone's guess....  Foraging near Gaydon....
