Might be worth taking off the door card and seeing if something has come away.

Sounds like the problem I had with one of my rear doors.

It happened to me a few weeks ago took the door card off and found the cable had become unclipped so just a matter of lining up and re clipping very easy job |

Thank you all for your responses, very helpful. I will remove the door card and hopefully it will just be a matter of re attaching a cable |

Just took the door card off and thankfully it was as suggested the cable pulled away from the lever mechanism. There appears to be no damage so I have reconnected the cable and everything works fine.
