Flashing LED front side lights

I tried changing my front side lights with LED bulbs, but once turned on they flash slightly rather than a constant light. I am guessing it might have to do with the different voltages?
The number plate lights work fine though.

Any suggestions?

you need a resistor in the circuit

You could try these... They work as they are (they already have a small circuit that deals with the voltages etc)

Had them in mine for a month or so now, look and work great.

Flashing is due to LEDs drawing very little amount of current and this confuses the control system which drives the side lights. Solution is to draw more current and this can be done by using a resistor across the positive and negative wires of the bulb. I used 220ohm 3W resistor and standard LED light but this does involve modifying the wiring. Alternative would be to use a LEDs with the resistor built in as Stevea suggested. Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto

Am I missing the point..isn't it easier to use the proper lamps that the car was designed to have?..picks up coat and walks away

I got few PMs regarding LED front side lights. Looks like quite a few like to put a LED but put off by the fact that you have to fit a resistor which means with modifying the wiring. LEDs with built in resistors don't look the same as the other ones. (normal 5 SMD LED 501 type bulbs)

This could be a good alternative, Exclamation Please note that I have not tried this, this is based on the picture and what they say. Exclamation

All you do is to plug one side of this to the existing bulb holder and then fix any LED bulb to the other end of it. Only issue that I can think of is that due to the location of the side light deep inside the headlight unit you will probably need to use a long nose pliers to insert the new bulb holder in to the holder hole. As a resistor is built in should not have the flashing problem and whenever all can be reverted to original configuration by simply unplugging it. Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto

I spent my whole career in vehicle electrical design. VM's have to meet a whole host of ISO standard requirements, the volt drop at the terminals and the design of the reflector are all designed to meet pre-determined lux requirements with the standard incandescent filament.
I very much doubt LED's would meet ISO requirements, LED's also have internal resistance and you have to include a resistor also. This would all affect the final lux output of the lamp.
My advice is to leave exterior lighting well alone, interior lighting doesn't really matter but exterior lighting is a safety issue even it's it's only position (side) lamps. Your insurance would take a dim view (no pun intended) should your vehicle be inspected by an expert after a shunt.
It's up to you what you do, but that's my professional advice, not an opinion.

I love my FL2!!!

Hello Guys, I am having a problem with my Side Lights on my 2007 Freelander 2 HSE. This problem has been reported on the forum twice before, but I can’t see that any one has been able to offer a solution.
I recently tried to fit some LED bulbs to my Side Lights and yes I fitted the wrong ones, I should have got the Cabus ones but I did not  any way the result is that the off side light will not work at all even though I have gone back to the original bulbs.
Another user reported this, and though every one offered a solution to the bulb problem, no one has said how to reset things so that the lights will work again.
Please can you help!!

im sure that those who have suffered will be along to answer, or offer advice Thumbs Up

I don't know, but have you checked fuses? maybe done a soft reset by removing the battery leads, and holding them together off the battery, for 10 mins, then reconnect them, this will drain any residual current in any ecu and then reboot them fresh, might be all it needs Idea Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

No fuses on the Side or Tail Lights, can't remember what the they use instead Embarassed EY or Pegleg knows. I do now that a Hard Reset once cured it for a few minutes but it came back again.

Edit: FET's. Field Effect Transistors instead of Fuses.
