Looks likely that government sanctions will be applied against diesels in the future. http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/jul/...ion-battle

If more than a handful start moving to electric cars the government will start to realise that the electricity infrastrusture can't cope with the increase in demand, and they'll start upping the taxes on electricity too! Energy supply policy is a complete mess on all levels, and the only tangible result is ever increasing taxes.

The rationale for electric vehicles is principally an ecological one. But surely all you're doing is shifting the polluting element up the chain to the (typically coal fired) power stations who belch out smoke & CO2 etc... You've gotta generate the leccy in the first place...

Not only is the pollution moved upstream to the power station, battery manufacture is not the greenest of processes. Then there is the scarcity of some of the minerals used in both the batteries and the control electronics.

Was in the Services at Beoconsfield today, the call of a Gregg's Bacon roll and a Tea was to much, was shocked to see some actually using the charging point, Dutch registered though. |

This was on TV news as well, where they too failed to mention that most diesels don't have a DPF.

I always wondered on the government / manufacturers stance for pushing diesels. I've had my last two petrol cars converted to run on LPG, yep even my 1.8 FL1, the saving is great, stops between fill ups can be extended (if you want to use the petrol as well) and there are more LPG stations than you think. I'm gob smacked why more manufacturers aren't making dual fuel cars. Shame there isn't a petrol FL2 anymore, I would have bought one! |

Aren't there still strange regulations about dual-fuel when going abroad? As far as I'm aware you can't take the cars across on the Tunnel. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

LPG cars are banned, to do with no official standards of fitment iirc. |

Not sure I'd let the fact I couldn't use the tunnel stop me from owning a particular car, I've never used it but if you're a camping type I guess it may slightly figure? |

Banned from the tunnel but OK on the ferries. I do know of one or two people who have taken dual fuel cars through the tunnel after sticking a "GB" plate over the fuelling point for LPG. John
