United Kingdom 2008 Freelander 2 TD4_e HST Manual Stornoway Grey
maintenance and repair

Hi,

I found this great site whilst looking for information on rear pinion noise, for my Freelander HST, this was confirmed in need of repair and completed under my Land Rover extended warranty with no quibbles to be fair.

My question is, "My warranty runs out on the 18th July the price quoted for a new one £790.00 now the pinion bearings in the diff have been replaced should I be aware of any other frequent Free Lander faults which are common to the 2008 - 2009 model with less than 40k which may cost more than the warranty?"

Thank you

I see you have a manual gearbox.
The Dual Mass Flywheel will be an expense greater than the 790 if it fails Exclamation

There are a number of DMF failures reported here, including my dear lady's FL2, but the rate of failure compared to the number of vehicles sold is probably not that great - unfortunately only LR would have accurate data on this.

The one good thing about the LR warranty is that it covers more than the DMF, and as from April 1st this year, all warranty repairs (parts and labour costs) are covered for a further two years against failure if undertaken by an official LR dealer/ service centre using official LR parts. Smile

That sounds good. Where is the official statement on this?

Cheers! ...

Dan @ Duckworth's confirmed via a different thread started by I think, npinks, that as from April 1 2014 all official LR parts supplied by an official LR dealer will be covered for the next 2 years subject to the usual caveats of normal wear n tear etc.. In addition if the parts are fitted by an official LR dealership then the labour costs would also be covered by the same new parts guarantee.

It follows therefore that if you have paid for an official LR warranty on or after 01.04.2014 or, currently have an official LR warranty in progress, any claim for parts n labour after 1st April under that LR warranty will be covered in the same manner in which the "old" warranty covered you for only 12mths after fitment.

Unless of course LR are now playing a twin track game re the parts n labour guarantee they now offer, in much the same way they offer differing warranty programmes in different global markets. A new FL2 for example has a more comprehensive warranty in Southampton than it does in Sydney. And presently the extended warranty after the initial new car 3yr warranty in the UK is far more inclusive than that here in CH.

As with all things the onus is upon the vehicle owners to read the small print to be absolutely sure of exactly what "we are about to receive"!
