I wonder if anybody has any ideas or has encountered a similar problem.

I have a Freelander 2, 2007, manual. Today it decided to indicate on the dashboard that the fuel was empty (despite having 3/4 tank). The noise and light alarmed to suggest low fuel. Following this, if I continue to drive for 10 to 15 minutes the turbo fails and I have no acceleration. I am able to continue driving without the turbo. If I stop, turn the engine off and wait 15 to 20 minutes the car fuel gauge appears normal and the turbo works again, but after 3-4mins the fuel light indicated low fuel and 15 mins the turbo fails (the cycle repeats).

I have no lights on the dashboard. I called out a breakdown mechanic and he connected to his diagnostic machine which didn't identify any problems.

Any ideas or thoughts would be enormously appreciated.

Use the search and type in faulty fuel gauge and you will find loads of info.

The turbo didn't fail... When the system detects that kind of low fuel (real or not in your case), it reduces the performance of the engine on purpose, for you "to behave" and to allow you to get to a fuel station.
Just RTFM....

You only need to fix the fuel gauge problem.
As suggested, the "Search" is your friend, not only here, but on any forum...
