I don't doubt you, my previous new MY11 SD4 GS also had DAB fitted, some lower spec cars had these options fitted from new.

It would say DAB on the display when you turn the radio on if it has DAB.

Don't worry mate, you are not the first to assume the digital means it's DAB!

A quick search revealed at least 3 topics on the same subject and I'm sure there are probably more.

http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic13498.html?highlight=dab

I'm sure the same question will come up again before too long.

Yes, my 2012 GS had DAB fitted from new Cool and it did not have satnav but had the little blimp aerial on the roof.

I assumed possibly wrongly? that the rear window wire aerial was for analogue? and the blimp was an amplified aerial for DAB?

Maybe Sat Nav & DAB aerial is combined? My previous SE had Sat but no DAB. 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

What I do know is there are two DAB bands, 'BAND 111' (used in the UK) and 'L-BAND' (some other countries).

L-BAND shares its location with the GPS pod on the roof and BAND 111 is the aerial in the rear left side window, more than likely our Freelander is a dual band receiver perhaps explaining why some other makes have problems with reception, because they are single band only.

EYorkshire is right, there is more than one DAB aerial in a FL.

I am amazed at how many different little modules there are hidden in the body of the car, behind panels or the roof lining. Bluetooth, DAB, FM, sensors for the key in a MY2013, etc. Not sure why they are so separate and aren't integrated. Must increase cost and complexity. 2016 BMW X3 30d SE in red

The DAB+ systems in use in parts of Europe are second generation and very much better than the one our government has cleverly adopted as standard. Presumably LR fit both so that it covers all markets. Also DAB has a number of country specific transmission modes (I, II, III and IV). For worldwide operation a receiver must support all 4 modes. See good old Wikipedo http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Audio_Broadcasting
Previous forum posts suggest that it is not possible to retrofit DAB, although it may have been possible to specify it as a factory option. If you haven't got it but can't bear to be without Radio 4Xtra there are receivers available which you can plug into your aux socket (I'm told). See for example http://www.getdigitalradio.com/digital-rad...io-in-car.
Your FR2 should have a DAB aerial fitted in one of the rear windows, even if it doesn't have a DAB radio. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS

Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.
