Where is the Fuel filter located?

Hi! Intending on servicing my Freelander 2 next weekend and not sure if I'm going to attempt the fuel filter change myself. Had a quote of £72 plus filter to replace so just wondering if I should attempt myself but I can't seem to find a guide or even a picture of where the fuel filter is located and if any specific tools are required apart from the bellying/priming tool.

Any help is gratefully received.

Many thanks,

Remove the engine cover and it is at the front of the engine slightly to the left as you look at it.i did mine my self it was easy enough to do and the only special tool required is the pump.

You don't need any special tools.

Here's a cut and paste from when I changed my fuel filter. Take note about running it with the air filter off. Whistle

I primed it with fuel before fitting it on the vehicle. I believe some people remove the drain bolt and immerse the filter in a bucket with enough fuel to cover it and wait for the air bubbles to stop coming out, indicating that it is full.

"Fuel filter. After reading the horror stories associated with air locks on here when changing the fuel filter I was expecting major grief but it went easy. I completely removed the long water drain plastic bolt, blocked the drain hole with a tapered rubber bung, connected a length of rubber fuel hose to the top opening and with a very small funnel attached to the hose, I filled the filter until fuel came out of everywhere! Fitted the new filter and and started the engine. No problem EXCEPT I got an engine warning lamp and message on the dash! This was because I had run the engine with the air filter airflow meter disconnected so be warned! Wasn't a problem for me as we have a fault code reader and I could clear the fault." Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Thanks for info. Intending on replacing in the next couple of weeks.

I've ordered a hand pump ready but wondering if the filter is charged with the fuel from the tank, is it worth placing the hand pump between the filter and fuel line to the engine to pull the fuel through??

I'm looking for an order of what to do for my own sanity. lol

Many thanks,

Thanks for the link - it explains it a bit more. Stupid Q I know but why does it have a water drain pipe? My first diesel so just getting used to what and why. Our MG TFs fuel filter just had a straight in one end and out the other but it is petrol.

Sometimes there's water in the fuel you buy. It's heavier than fuel and it settles in the filter. The drain tap is there to periodically drain that water off. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
