Since the tyres aren't directional, the date could be on either side. Tbh it isn't that important if you know the source of the tyres. the only time it's worth considering is when a tyre has been fitted on the spare - a second hand tyre might look brand new, but still fitted to a spare back in 2007 and never used. I always rotate my spare for this reason - plus the fact that it makes a set of tyres last longer. Come the changeover I buy 4 new ones and keep the best of the rest for a spare.
To address another earlier post, quite a lot of LR dealers apparently sell off a set of new wheels and tyres at reasonable prices, presumably swapped out from someone who ordered upgraded wheels on a new car. I haven't bought these myself, but I've bought the old wheels from someone who did! Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.
