Realspeed, a check of the servicing schedule (obviously) confirms the battery is not required to be replaced or refurbished at all. Leaving me to assume it is to be done on condition only. As it is working - and working well, I would be inclined to leave it until it shows evidence of letting you down. By all means, keep it charged - maybe a CTEK charger would be a good investment? (I have one I use for my caravan "leisure" battery). If you look below, my maxim is "If it's working, don't fix it"

Thank for the reply. The car is main dealer serviced every year irrespective of mileage so the battery should be ok.

Just to give you some encouragement - my previous 08 SE was still on its original battery at 103,000 miles when I sold it in February (nearly six years old). Ok, it was not a stop/start model, but your battery is uprated to accommodate that.

Re original post, you can disconnect and reconnect the battery without problem. It will reset your trip meter to zero and you will also need to recalibrate the electric windows - the procedure is in the handbook. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

A smart charger is a good idea since i got mine every now and again i put mine on a conditioning charge which pulses to break up any deposits then slow and fast charges in a cycle until complete,my battery is as old as the car 7 years and is good and strong. I got mine Ring brand from Costco about Ģ25,C-Tec are very good and Lidl and Aldi have one now and again about Ģ15,people say it is identical to the C-Tec but much cheaper. |

If your battery has a voltage of 12.3V after a run it is only charged to about 70% of it's capacity, should comfortably achieve 12.6V+ anything up to 12.85V with surface charge is not uncommon which will dissipate over a couple of days.

all advice thankfully received. The varta f21 battery is around the Ģ130 mark with a 3 year guaranteed life span which I don't understand as surely it depends on the amount of use it gets.I also don't know the amount of abuse it had being owned from new for a year by a previous owned who had a tow bar attached although it had only done 7000 niles when I bought it. The previous owner apparently wanted to go for an HSE version instead Ex 2010 Freelander2 GS-e Diesel manual Silver owner |

Unless you have a calibrated voltmeter I wouldn't place too much faith in your voltage readings anyway.

If you do decide to buy a battery Eurocarparts normally have some sort of discount going.

Yes I did find out it needs an AGM battery for my car which the Varta F21 battery is. Took some finding to get the right amp and CCA. Its the same as in the car provided by LR Ex 2010 Freelander2 GS-e Diesel manual Silver owner |

My stop/start has stopped working, I think I need a new battery. 130 quid for an AGM battery is a good price. I was going to replace mine this winter but then we didn't really have a winter. The car starts fine. Last winter when it was really cold the car started but was sluggish to turn over.
