Seems to be that it is absolutely fine to be a racist as long as you keep quiet about it

JC is not a racist, just a very clever presenter who knows how to manipulate the media and the public to maximise his personal wealth.

People seem to be just waiting for an excuse just to have a pop at someone, just to sensitive, I doubt if we will ever see a factual remake of The Dambusters either. |

Perhaps you are not aware of the numerous racial crimes that have gone to court where the perpetrator and the victim have been white but of different nationality ie Scottish, Irish ,Welsh or English. I am not a bleeding heart PC lefty or Human Rights activist but I do believe that we all deserve a bit of respect and should consider carefully what we say lest we offend. Not too hard to do I would suggest. |

Nothing wrong with a bit of respect, but the perception of offence is in the eye of the beholder and therein lies the problem - extremist beholders. What's the difference between calling me a 'pom' and calling an Asian person a 'slope'? In reality none at all, but the perception is different. No one is likely to care or start screaming racist if some Aussie calls me a pom (least of all me). But if the target is Asian it's different, for some reason. We need a sense of perspective - don't take offence at things which were not intended to be offensive! And more importantly, don't take offence on behalf of some third party you've never met or ever heard of before at things which were not intended to be offensive! |

In my view, if Clarkson held / holds racist views, he wouldn't have shirked from using the n-word out loud, knowing that he could re-edit and start again. As it was, he mumbled the middle verse to the point where, unless you already KNEW the verse, you'd NEVER be able to make out the bloody word. As James May said, Clarkson might be reasonably criticised as 'a bellend' but he doesn't strike me as malicious.
