Even without the 'kit' I know you will enjoy it, it's not long before the sound of traffic, industries disappear and then you want to stop and listen, peace and quiet only the sounds of nature, great photo opportunities as well in capturing perhaps something no-one else has clicked before

National trails are best regarding waymarking but do get busier so its a trade off whether you want to walk in the more remote spots using the 'freedom to roam' policy or to play safe on good signposted trails.

You do right in looking at outdoor walking as a health benefit, especially when feasting on a good meal at the end of the day, knowing you prepared well by burning off lots of calories

She does the serious National Trails and I do the lesser mileage walks in the wilderness, anyhow I'm better at giving advice after a greasy breakfast than exercising it

We both started out walking National Trails in the 90's but her legs have outlasted mine all I can do now is wave her goodbye and rush to find the nearest cafe before walking to meet her at end of day, looking tired and impoverished

Walking is something i like, well used to like, but want to get out more, so thought what the heck, bought a descent set of Alt-Bergs, JetBoil, Stanley Flask, got the waterproof and the jackets, just need to step up my search now on the daysack, Osprey looks to have launched a few nice new editions, just never got round to trying them out so my previous search stalled a little on that front

looking at the Garmin Base Camp program, there are Garmin Adventure, were walks of varying degree have already been uploaded and awaiting me to look at and download and walk them

Also, quite like the GeoCaching side of things too, as i think this might give the kids incentive to walk, with a sort of reward

not 100% up with what to do, i guess you put the location in, then plan a walk to it

CG-style welcomes notwithstanding, don't get too fixated on planning and rigidly following a route. Sometimes the best walks are had by wandering off along a path which just looks interesting.

And it's amazing how easily you can escape the madding crowd simply by getting off the popular paths. I was in Teesdale a few weeks ago, following the river up past High Force (on the South side, not the main tourist side). The path was deserted right up until the Bowlees car park, people everywhere from there to the waterfall itself, then deserted again once past the waterfall. The scenery past the waterfall is pretty spectacular, but the masses ignored it completey, just wanting to tick off High Force on their lists, then move on. N'owt s'queer as folk!

The wife and me found the same situation when we went walking near to the falls, We walked part of the Pennine Way and finished past the falls.

Got my new toy and gave it a bit of a play around and learning how it works, got some tracks and found a fair few few walks too, also joined Geocache.com to download some caches to it to get out and find some stuff whilst walking

Already try that over the weekend with my phone, something for the kids to do when walking (and me)

Overall very please as it came with full OS Map of the UK too

Just need to decide if I should subscribe to Birdseye views

That's what I was thinking but the system had a 8gb micro SD card in with GB maps

Says it comes with maps etc so I assume that's what you get, might be worth checking, answered really quickly to my questions
