some things to check for - might help you discount the price further.
1. drivers seat damage on outside edge bum area, they are know to crack
2. seatbelt A post damage, where belt returns into piller. This is a design fault
3. have a good look underneath for damage, a good indicator is the sump guard
4. water ingress to rear high level brake light
5. even tyre wear, though most are prone to edge wear on front tyres
6. ALL the electrics work, I always check the date on the SAT NAV DVD Disc ( under drivers seat)
7. lift up the folding rear seats to see signed for excessive dirt build up ( might have been used as a tractor !! like one I saw a while ago)
8. when the engine is hot and running lift oil filler cap, there should be no / minimal pressure / smoke, and no white gunge

just a few......

Check it as soon as possible for the well documented clutch slip - especially if you are going to use it for towing. Have a seach on this site. Thumbs Up Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

A lot of van pullers on here rate the auto box more highly for the job.Guess it depends on how much towing your planing on doing.

Steve, Check power steering lock to lock for any noises and ease of turning the wheel - possible PS oil blocked reservoir filter, also the rear diff - check for whining noises whilst driving - well documented on here, quick search will pull up pages and pages.....
Second earth lead fitted between battery and starter motor / engine - this is an easy DIY job if not already fitted and is a little bit of Freelander Black Magic!!

Don't let these documented problems / mods put you off though, the warranty if from a LR dealer should cover some of it.

Cracking car overall and you wont regret buying it. There's loads of advice, tips & tricks on here, friendly banter and the odd bit of p Censored Censored s taking (obviously CG has not seen this post yet ref. your caravan?) - a lot of very knowledgeable people also frequent here so help is always at hand.

Enjoy the experience and get some pics posted should you decide to buy it. You never know, somebody on here might have previously owned it and can give you the low down. MY2010 TD4 HSE Santorini Black, 19" Alloys, Almond Leather, Lux Pack, Rear Spoiler, Adaptive Xenons

Since joining the forum a month or so ago, I'm constantly blown away by how helpful & passionate everyone is. Even after is owning 2-3-4 FLs in some cases. Bravo guys (and girls?).

Regarding the clutch slip, it is not whilst stationery, take it up the road, come off a roundabout in third to fourth and accelerate hard, if the Rev Counter rises and speed not so much, the clutch is suspect. Thumbs Up

I was in the LR dealers in bury last week and was quoted £1500 for 12 months warranty, i ended up getting one from the RAC for £150, a few days later my window reg broke on the drivers side at a cost of £237, i had to put £18 towards it so not to bad.
So like pcheaven said check all electrics

Check both key fobs work. You can't replace the batteries and the fobs charge while driving. Good luck Thumbs Up

Check for rear diff whine (most noticeable on acceleration) - lots of posts on here about it. Get a LR Dealer to check the computer records to see if any warranty work has been done on the car. John

Thx for the advice i pick it up after 3pm today, I do know the drivers leather seat is starting to crack. I have checked the clutch on my test drive by putting handbrake on and trying to pull off but could not so i believe its ok. I will check the rest later and put a picture up later. I will also get in touch with the prevoius owner when I get my documents.

The kind of clutch slip Freelanders suffer from can't be tested for that way. You need to be doing around 1800-2000 rpm in 5th or 6th and then floor it. Slip will only show up under those conditions, not when pulling away from rest.

General consensus is that the slip is not the result of clutch wear, towing, off-roading or any other kind of use and abuse, but more an issue with the mechanism itself - possibly the self-adjustment mechanism.

Don't be put off by all the comments above though. The FL2 is an excellent car - you'll love it.

I got my 07 and got it Terracleaned... For me it was worth it and the car feels like new.

I also had my rear oil seal done ( expensive ) and a new air con rad and re gas ( not as expensive)

Add to that new tyres and a lot of detailing it looks and drives as good as new.
