Brake Squeak in Reverse Only

Morning All.

I've had my MY11 FL2 since March & I LOVE it. It was purchased from Lewes LR & had a service & MOT prior to me taking delivery.

I have one small issue which is, regardless of it being wet or dry, it squeaks when reversing with the break lightly applied. It's an Auto so this happens when reversing into parking spaces etc. The breaks do not this when moving forwards.

I've had a search on the forums & can't find anything specific to this but forgive me if this has been covered elsewhere. Embarassed

Has anyone got any ideas before & speak to my local dealer?

Thanks in advance.

No ideas for a cure but mine does it too! Not every time but frequently. I've lived with it for over two years now and it's got no worse and done no damage so hey ho! Ours - 2008 Stornoway Grey HSE Auto
Tricia's - 2006 Royal Blue Beetle Cabriolet Auto
Mine - 2014 Vespa GTS 300 Super Sport Matt Black
Ours - 2007 White Bailey Pageant Champagne

I've contacted Caffyns now so i'll see what they say. It may be due to the way the pads wear! I'll let you know what they say.

From the dealer:

Regarding the brakes I spoke to the work shop and apparently there can be a very slight build up of brake dust from the park brake which operates inside the main brake disc and this can cause the squeak.

It may clear itself but if not get it booked in and they will have a look for you.

If it's not going to cost me, i'll get them to take a look I think!

Got exactly the same thing on MY11 TD4 XS. bought in Dec13 since day 1.
I reported it to the dealer andthey said book it in and they willhave a look.

Only happens in reverse, when parking i.e. turning the wheel.

Never booked it in after 4 months..because it's not broke and don;t wan't the squeak to be replace by some other problem...lol good luck Murgzilla.

Well I'm almost glad it's not just mine. It not causing any problems it's just an annoying noise for myself and anyone around the car at the time. And I personally associate it with an unmaintained car which it isn't.

I'll let them take a look anyway although they don't have slots until mid May now. Fingers crossed it just goes! Or I may have to do a few miles in reverse to even out the pads.

Are you sure it is not your other half terrified in the back seat making the noise? Ex 2010 Freelander2 GS-e Diesel manual Silver owner

Rolling with laughter Certainly not. Plus she, and the littleZillas are aloud nowhere near the car.

I sadly ran over the neighbours cat a week after getting the car & that didn't make a great noise. Whistle

Well......maybe, if I can get a good deal on a D4. Seen a V.nice Ipanema Sand HSE at a Stafford dealer that ticks all the boxes.

Don't get me wrong, despite the few problems I've had, I absolutely love the FL2 and all the advice, tips and tricks I've gleaned from this site has made it a total buzz to own and drive. By far the best car I've owned or had for company cars and I've had quite a few but could really do with the 7 seats that the D4 has for when we all go out instead of taking 2 cars. There's a few at work got them after having FL2's as well and they are of the same opinion.

Early days yet but what ever I do, I will be sticking with the oval shaped badge Thumbs Up MY2010 TD4 HSE Santorini Black, 19" Alloys, Almond Leather, Lux Pack, Rear Spoiler, Adaptive Xenons

Mine does it too infrequently. Get Caffyns to have a look - at least you will get a free valet and a tin of LR travel sweets Thumbs Up

Mine too but it has only just started doing it. That said, I know that the rear pads are nearing end of life so maybe once changed the problemette will go away.

mine didn't do it, but since having my rear breaks and shoes replaced last june, the squeek appeared a few months later, there doesn't seem to be any resistance when reversing and i dont drive miles in reverse so not looked further, it also only squeaks just as i take my foot off the gas to apply the break, but not as i break

Just back from my local dealer and the problem has been fixed. It turned out to have been an issue with the handbreak!

All sorted under warranty and they also threw on my new 19" wheels at no extra charge. They're also replacing one of the keys as it's become slightly warped. Washed and hoovered plus a loan car for the day. All at no charge to me at all. Pretty impressed I must say. Thumbs Up
