Australia 2007 Freelander 2 i6 SE Auto Indus Silver
Off-road Modifications

Hey everyone,

I have recently contacted Unity4wd based in china and asked them whether they are interested in making some after-market modifications for the Freelander 2. They seem keen although they would first require some sample products. Has anyone on the forum fitted a snorkel or any after-market products we could suggest? Possibly even under body protection as an alternative to the overly expensive Mantec gear.

If anyone is able to source a sample of a snorkel for example, we could get them to make it Thumbs Up

Here's a copy of the email reply I received from them

Thanks for your idea.
This is Connie from Unity 4wd accessories factory.
Yes. It is good to open the new market for Land Rover Freelander 2, but unfortunately we do not have any product sample such as snorkel fit for this car so this make difficult to open new model. So do you have sample? We can make it if you can get the sample.
Any more products pls kindly check our website: www <snip> com
More quetsion and idea pls kindly contact me.
Thanks a lot!

Best Regards
Connie

so basically they are asking to has a sample so they can make a cheap copy from it Rolling Eyes

nothing like copyright theft, as the company who made the snorkel, will have spent time and money on it and will have something to say about it been copied Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I guess their product will only be as good as the sample given to them. Everything nowadays is made in China anyway Laughing

@ npinks.
Agreed, this company has no 'Research and Development', just many poor people out the back in a BIG tin shed copying everyone else's products.

Let's get one thing clear, I'm not suggesting copying anyone's product. There isn't a company yet that I know of which produces snorkels for the FL2. I remember reading a topic on this forum where someone was planning to develop a raised air intake, all I'm suggesting is that it would be a lot more affordable to get one mass produced in China if a sample has been made.

2010 Freelander 2 TD4_e GS Manual Zermatt Silver

one of the guys at the meeting last weekend told me he is getting a 3d printer at work soon.. There are no snorkels I know of that fit the FL2, but we decided that it would be possible to design and fit one using the intake vent to hold some sort of expander arrangement and up top on the roofrack mount..

I have yet to still find the breathers if any to extend up though.. If it ever gets off the ground I will let you guys know.. but I cant see it happening to be honest.

I got a price for the design of a FL2 snorkle - nearly £10k, by the time you have bought a sample wing, done the 3d drawings, got a 3d print to try up against a vehicle (we have a 3d printer in the office) and got the first proper moulded sample.

The rest of the intake will leak like a sieve, OK for dust reduction, but the rest of the system will need serious work befor you go deep wading. Don't forget to extend the axle and transmission breaters. Putting a filter on existing breathers - eg turbo actuator - is also a good move.

To give this away for some Censored in China to copy Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

Design costs, good design cost proportionally more - getting it right first time is unusuall, each individual fitting costs - hence the price. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner
