Main beam bulb replacement funny

Offside main beam failed yesterday so off I went to get a replacement H7.
Old bulb out and new one in - still no light.
Remove good nearside and fit into offside - all OK
Put new one into nearside - no nearside light but off side OK
Off I go again to get a second new identical H7
Fit second new H7 into offside - bingo, both working.
I always thought that standard H7 Halogen were fine installed in singles although you may experience a brighter light from the new bulb?
Surprised Tattoos - Why would you choose to look like the wall of a public toilet?

Perhaps I did not explain it quite fully.
But, basically both main beams would not come on with one new and one old existing working bulb, only when I fitted 2 new bulbs. Tattoos - Why would you choose to look like the wall of a public toilet?
