Problem with front washer, would really appreciate any ideas. Passenger side, bonnet mounted washer, has two jet holes. One works, one doesn't!

I have owned the car for a few months now and it's really started bugging me. I have tried cleaning, using a needle head, WD40, nothing seems to get it working.

Not too sure if I remove the heat layer under the bonnet that I will be able to get it back on. But surely if one of the jets works then the tube must still be connected?! Can the jet head component be removed from the bonnet without causing damage?

hi Jrt, had same problem, tried needle warm water etc.
Then got friend to place fingers over the other 3 jets and then I operated wash lever and after a few seconds the blockage cleared and now all four work fine. 57 reg GS leather seats panoramic sun roof

What happens is, if youve not always had a decent concentrate mix in the washer fluid, the water can stagnate and bits form in the water, if these get pumped up to the nozzle it will block them as they wont pass through, pushing a needle into the jet clears it but only because its pushed the debris back out of the way only for it to be washed back up behind the nozzle again and blocking it.
The best cure is the remove the nozzle assembly and wash it out in hot water and blow it back in the opposite direction to flush out any dirt, then it should be ok, provided you flush out all the old dirty water from the washer bottle and pipework too of course.

Mona Geeza is correct,it's mould that grows and blocks the tubes etc,have the pipes off and clean through you may or may not need to warm the pipes up if they are difficult to pull off.

Thanks for the info. Is it easy to remove the inside bonnet lining and refit? Would it require special adhesive or does it just clip on?

And in addition to the mould/algae that can develop in your washer bottle causing blockages, not having a decent concentration of of screen wash can allow legionella bacteria to survive. Low risk and survivable nowadays but another good reason to use a decent screenwash.

The nozzles can be pulled out, the baboons at Chester Zoo will do this for you, or, you can drop the soundproofing from the underside of the bonnet, squeeze the nozzle and push out, disconnect the hose and heater connection, it's on a plug, refit the new one, about £8 each from memory

Try a safety pin or bare a bit of electrical cable and use a small strand of copper wire to unblock the nozzle.

He's done all that the blockage is in the pipe.

How come 3 jets work then if the tube is blocked?

Only one nozzle is blocked and should unblock but the system could prob due with flushing out.

Finally found 10 mins to sort out the problem. Turns out it's very easy to fix.

Remove three of the insulation clips.

Fold back the sheet of insulation.

Pop off the tube and the electric connector

Push in the spring clip on the jet component and push it out from under the bonnet.

Quick spray of WD40 and 5 mins in some washing up liquid.

Just had to clear my windscreen washers which were completely blocked. I had tried unblocking with a pin etc but it was clear that they were full of crap so here is my solution.

Remove the jet units from the bonnet and clean them up, then fill your mouth with water and blow it through the jets so as to back wash the crap out. Repeat a few times. Works a treat.

Finally run the pump for a few seconds without nozzles attached to clear the pipework.

Saved the £38 quoted for replacement units.
