Sounds like the self park switch in the motor.

Thanks all, just thought I'd update. The auto-electrician has now fixed this. It was the stalk switch. Needed circuit board etc. Quite a costly affair.... |

The circuit board from stalk was duff. Replaced and now fine. Yep by all accounts quite unusual (and yes unlucky!) |
