Eco stop start

Hope this information will be of use to those who have the Eco stop start that is not working, it has taken nearly 18 months to sort mine out, the car went in to the garage for 4 days and the out come was the battery was only 65% charged due to me doing low mileage and short trips, they tried charging the battery to a full charge, but it would not charge so a new AGM battery was fitted and the Eco works, the down side was I had to purchase a Ctek MXS 5 battery conditioner at a cost of £58.00 off Ebay to keep the battery fully charged.

My stop/start only works in the summer months. It went through a phase in November were it would turn the engine off and restart after about 3 seconds. I've charged the battery a few times at work, we have an RAC smart charger. After about 20 minutes the charger says the battery is fully charged. I don't know if I have an issue with the battery or not. TBH unless the battery will not start the car I don't really want want to fork out 150 for a new battery. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

Hi - I don't have stop start on my Freelander but my wife does on her mini
Not fully up to speed on it but apparently on the mini it won't do the stop / start thing if the temp inside the car is not up to what you had set the heating controls to - guess engine keeps running to keep the inside temp up
Might be something similar on the Freelander if not working in the winter depending what you have the heating control set to and if is still trying to heat the inside

Just a thought !

I believe there are all kind of variables that affect the system, it's very complicated. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

ECO stop/start saves fuel each time it stops the engine for longer than 3 seconds.

It will only work if:(among others)
The ambient outside air temperature is between 0 and 40 degrees C
The engine is at normal operating temperature
The battery is fully charged or near to fully charged
The audio system is draining the battery excessively
The air conditioning system is not putting excessive load on the vehicle.
Terrain Response is set to a program other than General.

Not a fan of ECO stop/start. It seems to me that we have lost the plot if you have to use energy to charge your battery at home so that stop/start will work to save energy. John

I asked for it to be disabled but told not possible. Surely the software could disable it? * GONE. GS TD4 Manual MY2013. Orkney Grey with privacy, cold and clearview packs, armrests (a must!) and a spoiler.

Might as well try and get used to it as it is now being introduced to all new models including automatics. It is already available on Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and 2014 Discovery and will be coming to all models as they are replaced.

I think the amount of fuel it saves at an average traffic light stop must be very very small.

As an example

The 1.6tdci ford focus cars at work change from mpg readings to gallons/hour when the vehicle comes to a standstill. When at normal running temps, the display registers <0.1 gal/hr. ... so considering an average stop may only be about a minute or so for a set of lights ... thats <0.0016667 gallons it would save ... or less than about 7.5ml of fuel per minute. at about £1.30 /litre I'd have saved at most 1.30*0.0075 = ~0.01 .... i.e. 1 pence.

WOOOOWWW. Laughing

With having to replace a battery due to the stop/start knackering it, at even £100 would mean that I'd need to be stopped for about 166 hours for the saving in fuel to be worth the penalty on the battery alone.

To me its just a false economy .. the cost of the system (complexity, additional heavy duty parts etc ) versus its savings just doesn't seem to equate.

I'd probably save more fuel by putting 1psi more into each tyre.

It's ok for you North of the Border, come down here, it's nothing to sit at a set of lights and watch them go through three or four changes and you still don't move, when you finally move, 100 yards to the next set and repeat the scenario Evil or Very Mad

Stop start is a good thing but land rover should give people the choice of disabling it. (Without having to press a button). But then i expect that would make the tax more expensive due to higher emmissions.
