Toeknee,
Being using Proraso green for a while but just tried the blue with a multiblade last week.
Probably the best shaving cream in the World. Cost 6 quid. Should last 6 months.
The stuff in cans it utter s Censored te
Unusable really.

If anyone visits your local supermarket and buy Fusion/Mach and a tin of junk, it's up to you.
What you get is a third rate shave at a very high price. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

I gotta get me one of those. Wink

Got it yesterday, my first mans razor. Mr. Green Went with a recommended starter razor - a Merkur 23C. Just under £30 off eBay including free postage. Had my first shave yesterday at about 8.00 pm and I was well impressed. Nice clean shave (shaved a couple of times to get used to it), no blood and no rash. Still as smooth as a baby's bum this morning. Cant't wait to grow some more whiskers to have another go. Laughing Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Steve,
Rather oddly, double edge shaving is a joy compared to those horrid and expensive multiblade things as you've discovered.
What blade did you use? Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Definitely a pleasure. I bought a pack of 10 'Merkur super' blades from the same seller but the new razor also came with one new Merkur blade. I assume it was a 'super' too. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Not tried them yet.
I bought a mixed lot from Amazon and the Bay plus some given by Toeknee Thumbs Up
So far I've used Derby, Wilkinson Sword, Astra SP, Gillette 7 o'clock, Gillette Silver Blue, BIC and Perma Sharp.
The Derby got binned Big Cry
Still to try are Merkur, Personna Plat, Gillette Rubie, Polsilver Super Iridium, Rapira.

Then I'll buy a bulk order Thumbs Up Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

I've now tried all the blades mentioned above with some interesting results.
Never had one nick, no blood whatsoever from any of them. Thumbs Up
However, I've some Feather blades on the way so I might be in A&E!
I've made a note of the result of each blade before I make a bulk purchase.

The Jagger 89L is a mild razor, but I've added two shims under the blade to make it a bit more aggressive and it's made a difference.
I like to use pre-shave oil - it makes a hell of a difference but oh so pricey and in miniature bottles too.
So I've made my own, dirt cheap and dead easy. You'd be surprised at the basic ingredients the commercial boys use like virgin olive oil and castor oil plus some essential oil of your choice. It's that simple. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

My life! I am really glad I am in the 10% that don't bother shaving at all having read this thread. Reminds me why I gave it up in 1974. An extra half hour in bed in the morning, no sore neck or razor burn, extra cash in my pocket to do something enjoyable with!!!

Laughing
Tried that too some years ago.
I'm not suited to beard growth. It came out in all colours of the rainbow and in patches.
I looked even more dreadful and ugly. Big Cry

Suits some though Thumbs Up
But no sore neck or razor burn using double edge. Dirt cheap too Thumbs Up Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

England 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 XS Auto Indus Silver

I have just gone back to using a DE razor. I use an electric wet and dry for daily shave to keep growth down and the DE for when I have to go out or for work meetings. I use a normal gel with the electric, but just use extra virgin olive oil for the DE shave. It is excellent, razor glides nicely and really smooth skin after with no burn. I have checked and the shaving oils in very small expensive bottles are mainly olive oil or similar. So, a 250ml bottle of EV olive oil from Morrisons at a similar price to these little bottles and I am happy. When shaving fill basin with hot soapy water to rinse razor to stop clogging and job done. Can also keep razor with blade soaked in oil to stop any deterioration between shaves. Job done! 2011 XS SD4, Indus Silver (Getting to love it more and more)
2012 HSE Manual, Santorini Black (Loved it and did not want to let it go)
