New Jag 4x4

For all the talk about Freelander replacement I noticed this recently.

http://www.topspeed.com/cars/jaguar/2014-j...03536.html

It seems that JLR are making a new Jag-badged 4x4 (X761) that is around the size of the current FL2. Given that there is no direct Freelander replacement planned (the new models are new disco derivatives and a little larger than current) could this be the obvious choice next time?

Given the Jag and Land Rover teams are integrated now all the LR 4x4 heritage and learning should be captured, so it should be the best of both worlds.

What do you think?

No, I would still take the baby disco. The Jag is a while away yet.

So for me anyway, the baby disco is the obvious choice for replacing my Freelander, choice of 5 or 7 seats. I very much doubt there will be much LR heritage in the Jag, just another model to keep up with the trend IMO. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

As now, with the FL2, X3, Evoque, etc, it'll depend what you want the car for. If you want a style statement to drive to the supermaket buy the Jag/Evoque/X3. If you want a 4x4 to use as such buy the Disco/FL2 - in that role it'll still be far superior.

To the OP there is a lot of pieces online about the new Jaguar 4x4. Looking at the comments on your link they date from 2012 at the earliest. The link below shows more if you are interested.

We saw the body panels back in September at Halewood, mentioned on these two threads. A few we suspected were covered over from prying eyes, one being driven through the factory, a few days later I saw two heading down the M40 south of Gaydon on a Transporter.

Wow - the rules about what constitutes a 'general' post and an 'off topic' one must be pretty specific if a discussion on a replacement car, by the same manufacturer, in the same segment and at the time of model change doesn't qualify. Wink
