Clutch make

Hi All

I am quite new to forum but was hoping for some advice. My 2007 Td4 Freelander 2 requires a new clutch. I have had a quote from an indy of £1200 and from a dealer of £1450, this is all in including the DMF and slave cylinder, using genuine Land Rover parts. I realise the dealer would use genuine parts but the indy will fit whatever I want so are non genuine parts up to scratch or would it be false economy? The car has covered 102000 miles and I also tow a caravan, if that makes any difference. If non genuine are good, what make.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Land Rover don't make clutches - they buy them. I think they use Valeo clutches, but maybe others as well. John

hi have a look under clutch cost on here I paid £1100 clutch kit dmf and rear cranckshaft oil seal fitted at local indie.if you tell your local dealer they may price match mine did for timing belt and came close to price for complete clutch fitting .only diff with indie you don't get car washed and vac and a list of things that need doing

Hi thanks for the replies. I'm quite happy to go to the indie but thought if they used non genuine parts then it might work out a bit cheaper. I have looked through the forum and people have got them from ebay etc... but no mention of make. If valeo are used by the dealer I guess that's the one to go for.

Thanks again

Recently had a clutch changed in a 10 reg FL2 with only 45k on the clock. Independent charged me £670 and said that the DMF was fine and didn't need changing (would have been about £390 extra).

It turned out that the clutch was not worn but had a manufacturing fault
