I think I'd better hang onto it in case the dealer wants it back. I'm not posting it again so he'll have to come and pick it up. Apart from suggestion of paperweight, I have no use for it. Someone somewhere must be missing it though!.

Yes - as the MY2013 key doesn't have to be docked, it can't recharge itself. Handbook has details of how to change the battery. No idea whether it's reprogrammable though.
