Order Problem Xenon Lights

Ordered a new Freelander XS, 2 weeks ago. Added Privacy Glass and Xenon headlights as options. I have been told today that the build date is 29th Jan 2014 and that it will not have Xenon lights as there are supply issues (HSE Lux models not affected)- my options are to go ahead with standard headlights, or to wait and see if Xenon lights become available again.

Has anyone else heard that there are supply issues with Xenon lights? Not sure if I am being spun a line by the dealer due to some issue in their ordering process.

Thanks

Also ordered an XS a week ago with xenons but nothing from the dealer regarding any shortage (yet). Will keep you posted if I hear any different.

Back in 2011 when I was ordering the Evoque xenons were causing delays for some, cars that had them as standard were fine but those specifying them as an option were facing lengthy delays. This is nothing new for LR.

I've got the standard halogen lights, but opted for the signature lighting. I find them to be good but then I've never had xenons so don't have anything to compare them to. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Xenon Light Order Issue

I have been told the Freelander 2 I ordered with optional Xenon headlights will be delayed due to supply problems with the units. Dealer also mentioned that Xenon's may not come back on as an option!!

Is there a supply issue or are they no longer an option on the XS?

I would say supply problem, can't see them dropping xenons.

Xenons weren't available to order on lower spec Evoques until supply problems had been resolved. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Perrrys were in touch today - LR not taking orders for xenon option at the moment. Situation might change by end of Jan.

In the MY14 log the only changes seem to be -

"Including standard Signature Halogen LED lighting to GS / XS models (+£190 OTR pricing)
Gloss Black finish to centre console stowage lid on HSE Lux deriviatives (+£85 OTR pricing)"

However, the xenon option is still priced at some £900 so you would be paying the extra on the list price for the change to the headlights even though you were having the xenons fitted! Gone: S1 TNB 664

Thanks JohnD - also had it confirmed by LR today that there is a supply issue but they did not know when it will be resolved.

I would never have halogen headlights again. If it was me, I would wait for the Xenons to appear again.

They are just fantastic. All three of our cars have Xenon headlights. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

Perrys contacted me again today:-

LR have told them that the xenon option is being removed from Freelanders altogether and will only be available on versions where it is standard. Gone: S1 TNB 664

From my understanding HSE Lux is only version with Xenon as standard which is out of my budget. So guess I am going to be stuck with standard lights for now.

Thanks J77

Could you tell us if you have the projector lens version of the halogen lamps or the reflectors.

I wanted the xenons to give a decent light at night as where we live the roads are bad and often have a drop off at the verge. However, I've read that the projector type halogens are poor in this respect.

I was quite annoyed when the agent told me that they were no longer available and that the only, well not a choice really, was to have the projector halogen style headlights. Gone: S1 TNB 664

I sometimes flick on the front fog lights on the country lanes near me because it can be quite difficult to see the edge when there is oncoming traffic and the low light gives an extra bit of visibility in that area. I am well aware of rule 236 of the Highway Code and all I will say is that I have never ever been dazzled by another driver's front fog lights. Rear fog lights are a different kettle of fish and very annoying if mis used. 2013 RR Evoque Pure Tech

I had a MY13 HSE with standard lamps as a courtesy car this week and must admit I found the light given out to be very poor compared to my MY11 Xenons - so bad I stopped and got out twice to see if they were actually on!!! Shocked

Got my car back today and the difference between the two is unbelievable - i wouldnt have a car without xenons ever again. Lets hope LR get the supply problem sorted out a bit sharpish. Now - 2017 BMW X3 M Sport Carbon Black

All Freelanders from the 2010 facelift had projector headlights.

You hear mixed reports as to whether they are better or worse than the reflector type earlier headlights.

A simple bulb change makes all the difference on halogen projector type headlights. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

I haven't experienced lights from pre-MY11 cars but I find that the standard projector lights are very good. Certainly much better than my previous Audi. Never had Xenons before but new car will have them.
