Hi - This is not how an automatic car is designed to be driven, so I would advise strongly against it.

Auto transmissions are designed to operate similarly to manual transmissions. If you are coasting with an automatic transmission, all you are doing is the same as when you coast with a manual transmission.

Ha! No probs. It's not the sort of thing you would want to be doing and get it wrong, say dropping into reverse while doing 40mph...

And you can't do it - at least on my MY2013, as you need to put the brake on in order to re-engage drive from neutral. It will go from drive to neutral, but not back. |

Drive nice and smooth, with no harsh barking or accelerating and MPG will be better. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200 |

I may be wrong but does the engine not reduce the fuel to practically zero when you take your foot off in say a downhill, I have seen my inst fuel go to something like 125 mpg on a long downhill stretch with my foot off when towing! MY2014 SD4 XS

You just have to press the brake, not turn on the parking brake. On my old car I did for six years and it does improve mpg under normal driving conditions. But drive it hard and it will use more fuel with Bluefin. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come......... |
