DPF removal part of MOT test Feb 2014

From February 2014 a visual inspection of the vehicles DPF will be included in the MOT !
so for those that have removed it , you may have an issue.

It will all be down to interpretation of the MOT tester and there is no physical test although interestingly enough there is a road traffic act that will allow prosecution if the vehicles emissions exceed the limits. How this would be regulated and tested begs more questions but neither the less it goes to show it’s a step in the right direction.
I have always found it very easy to spot a de-catted diesel.

For those that suddenly find themselves needing a DPF may also find it expensive when they don’t have a complete unit to exchange !

The above applies to those cars where a DPf was fitted from new and since removed
Oh and the fines now run into a healthy 4 figures + for vehicles caught with DPf's removed and a successful prosecution, will follow with large fines between £1000 & £2500.00 Jaguar x-type sport gone
Jaguar x-type 2.2d sport one of my best cars ever sadly gone
Freelander 2 GS auto 2008 most unreliable ever ! gladly gone

The removal is a common mod on many VAG cars as it increases power and improves mpg
When it was first started people would replace the dpf with a straight through pipe and remap, later on as the rumours about it being required for MOT in the future came about the tuning companies decided the best way would be to take dpf off car, use hammer + chissel, etc and smash the centre out of it and replace - this means when a MOT tester looks under the car it seems to be in place, they can't tell if it's hollow Thumbs Up

Are you sure you are not confusing the dpf with the cat? Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

I had loads of issues with the DPF when i first got my FL2. But, touch wood, since the last software update I haven't had any issues. So I would advise everyone to just check the ECU software is up-to-date. I wasn't ever able to find out what specifically changed with the new software but i suspect it was the limits that caused the premature DPF warnings. (either that or I'm going to have a big issue soon!)
