Random warning light

My 2010 FL2 sems to be giving me random warning lights. The air bag warning light comes on at start and correctly goes off shortly afterwards but somtimes comes back on.

It only seems to come on the second time first thing in the morning when its cool. Stays on all the way to work but then driving anytime after that its not on.

I think it doubles as a bulb warning light but I have repeatedly checked all of the external lights and all is well.

Any ideas Question

Doubling an airbag warning with a bulb warning Shocked Hope not... a bit potentially opposite ends of the seriousnes scale, that.

Have you tried turning off the passenger airbag and seeing what happens ? We Don't Care About Pot Holes !!

Sounds like a dodgy connector - standard problem on Disco2 (big yellow connectors behind gluv box and under n/s fron seat), but don't know if it's common on the Freelander. Worth locating connectors and checking them WITH THE IGNITION OFF.

Have recently had this one. Was a bit of a problem to find due to being intermittent, so dealer had 3 attempts to put right. Last time the light was on when it went in and was a bad connection on the multi plug under the seat. They also replaced the seat belt tensioner on the drivers side due to it showing high resistance. Everything ok now. Remember there are never problems, just new challenges

I think the confusion about bulb testing is because the warning light illuminates when you switch on the ignition to confirm that particular warning light is functioning as opposed to as an indication that another light is not working.

My MY2010 ( less than 4 weeks old ) has also developed a similar fault with the Airbag warning light coming on as part of the initial test and then going off as expected however it then comes on again and stays on until I switch off.

Dealer can't look at it till 8th October but reckons it will be a faulty sensor. I am assured the car is safe to drive and it is impossible for any of the Airbags to activate in error however if there is a sensor fault then it is highly likely that in the event of an accident the Airbag connected to the faulty sensor will not work.

Just have to decide which is the safest seat to travel in, driver Question passenger Question front Question rear Question
Seems life is full of decisions. Exclamation

Car went into the dealers on Friday and got it back on Saturday with the fault identified but not fixed, apparently the computer showed a fault code for the driver's airbag sensor. The dealer did order a replacement part but apparently they are on back order and as of this morning Land Rover are forecasting a delivery date mid to end November.
Although the warning light is now functioning as expected and not coming back on after the initial test sequence the dealers are still holding to the position that they cannot guarantee that all or any of the airbags will work in the event of an accident.
I am due to go on holiday at the end of this week and will be driving about 1000 miles and while I accept that an accident is as likely to happen on a local run as it is on a long distance one, the impact is liable to be far more severe at motorway speeds than on the usual urban runs.
The dealer agrees with me and is presently trying to get Land Rover to provide a load/hire car for the duration of my holiday.
It will be interesting to see what happens and if Land Rover refuse to supply a car if the dealer will foot the bill. Has anyone else experienced anything similar where the vehicle is drivable and safe as long as it isn't involved in a collision. Would be so much easier if airbag operation was included in the MOT.

could they not get a sensor from a doner car on the forecourt, then fit the new one in when it arrives Idea Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I did suggest that, but was told that once fitted to a vehicle they are programmed to the set up of that particular cars computer and can't then be fitted to any other car.

Also just got a call from the dealer and apparently Land Rover agree that I shouldn't really be driving the car and they will be delivering a temporary replacement to the dealer for me to use until mine can be fixed. I suspect L R are worried that if someone was injured due to an airbag failure then they might be liable in some way.

Prefer my own car but I can live with a temp.

charrodine I think the main reason I am getting a temporary replacement car is because I specifically asked the Service Manager at my dealership if he would be happy driving his wife and family about for 1000 miles in my car and as a result of his answer he really was obliged to argue the point with L R.

You could say that the precedent is set so I would suspect that as long as your car computer is showing an airbag error that they can't fix before you go away you could reasonably ask for loaner, the down side I suppose is they have said they want to keep my car until the repair has been completed and I'm never as comfortable driving someone else's car particularly as this could well be several weeks but at least it will keep the mileage down.

I have the same problem! and I to am taking a 500 mile journey to Somerset in the early hours
However after having survived 2 head on's one in a Fiesta v a lamp post pre seat belts and airbags and one in an airbourne Cavalier v a tree seatbelts but pre airbag ,I am still here!
Therefore the thought of no ejaculating airbags does not scare me .
Though the nuisance of a red light in my face for the 10 hour journey will severely p me off
So if no one knows a quick fix do they know how to unplug the light .

As I wrote above, ignition OFF, then locate the connector under the front seats and give it a wiggle to restore connectivity. That is the most likely cause. I believe the computer will store an airbag fault, so the dealer will try to sell you an expensive repair.

cheers Thumbs Up wiggling the plug seems to have cured an airbag warning light on my car, it was actually a bit slack, I think due to Mrs G storing a bag full of stuff under the seat, I lower the seat right down to drive At work
