Autumnal Colours

Love the tree colours at this time of the year.
This is Lake Vyrnwy a few miles from my home.

Indeed, it's lovely.
And a stage of the WRC Rally comes through the forest on my doorstep this Saturday.
Can't wait.

Memories are made of this............

From home via Chester, Wrexham, Ruabon, Llangollen, Corwen, Bala then via Penybont and mountain road to Vyrnwy, down to the dam via the east side, hot chocolate and fruit scone in the cafe, back up the west side of the reservoir, over to Llanuwchllyn, either over the gated road via Parc or along the lake back to Bala, over to Llyn Celyn, Trawsfynydd, Porthmadog, Beddgelert, Llanberis, Caernarfon, Llandudno for doughnuts on the pier (watch out for seagulls!), A55 back to south Lancashire or later Cheshire.

Great day out on any motorbike or scooter you care to name but particularly good on a Kawasaki W650 that I've always regretted selling. First did this trip in the early 60s on a little Honda, last did it three years ago on a BMW R65. Never get tired of it.

NB - VERY dodgy in late autumn on two wheels round the reservoir due to impressive quantities of those beautiful autumn leaves all over the roads.

Yet another reason to be grateful to Liverpool! It was their water supply need that was the inspiration for the dam. Ours - 2008 Stornoway Grey HSE Auto

rjc1944,
Lovely route Thumbs Up
If I may add a few extra miles?
When taking the road to Llanuwchllyn, turn left at the head of Bwlch y Groes pass (hellfire pass) and head to Dinas Mawddwy. Stunning road. Then take the A470 westward and the A487 in the direction of Machynlleth. You will see Cader Idris. Take the B4405 to Tywyn which has some breathtaking scenery and take a trip on the old steam light railway.
Take the coast road up to Fairbourne then back up to Bala Thumbs Up

Unless you know it already of course. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Believe me, unless you've actually been over the mountain roads between Bala and Vyrnwy, you've really missed a treat.

"Nice" doesn't even come close! Magical is better. Cymru am byth. Thumbs Up Bow down Very Happy Ours - 2008 Stornoway Grey HSE Auto

I have indeed, many times. A few months ago I met a German registered Merc towing a caravan on that road Thud .
Caused absolute chaos and a few locals were more than annoyed. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Hi Pegleg - yes, I know that lot. Had a good friend back in the mid-60s whose parents ran the Baptist Holiday Fellowship in Tywyn so we went there lots. Over Cross Foxes and via the Devil's Pulpit to Tal-y-Llyn. That road is very spooky to walk after dark Shocked

When I first saw Bwlch y Groes it had only just been tarmacked - it used to be a regular hill-climb test. Although Dinas Mawddwy is lovely in its own severe way I'd hate to live there - almost permanently shut off from the sun by the surrounding hills except in summer, and totally enclosed. It's still very popular around here with bikers. Good to see many old BSA's, Triumph's etc about rode with great care.
The downside has been the nice summer. There have been a lot of severe injuries and fatalities with bikers and the roads have often been closed as a result. Very sad.
