Car HUD

Has anyone installed a Head Up Display (HUD)? Ive been reading about them, its were a car speedo, revometer and other things are projected onto the windscreen while you are driving.

I'm not sure if they are legal, I think they might be a little too distracting, but some websites claim they make driving safer as all the info you need is on the windscreen in front of you. You can even have your sat nav projected up there. Anyone seen one installed? Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

There's various apps for iPhones and android that do the same if you wanted to have a play? Place the phone on the dash and it reflects on the glass like a HUD.

New one recently released does satnav, but there are others that do speed etc.

I saw one page that had the speed, speed limit, revs, sat nav directions, it all looked futuristic. I don't know if its the future, I was wondering if it would create to many distractions? Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

Fast jet pilots seem to manage well with the technology - mind you, there's not so much traffic or pedestrians up there! Ours - 2008 Stornoway Grey HSE Auto

I might get a HUD and a couple of hear seeking missiles. That would be great if you got stuck behind a caravan! If it's good enough for fighter pilots! Whistle Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

Fast jet pilots are trained to check everything and then double check, most drivers set off without even knowing if they have wheels on the car.
BMW had a car with an HUD option years ago, not sure how it was received. Can't see much benefit in a car other than gimmick value and it would soon be adapted to display emails etc Whistle

Sister in Law has a Toyota Prius with HUD system. It's excellent to use, just refocus eyes instead of looking away from road to glance at instruments. Not sure why all cars don't have them installed as can't cost that much to fit while car being built.

This would be quite unsafe. You would have to overtake (could be dangerous) the caravan before you could destroy it with rear-facing missiles.

It would need to be a forward facing missile then. I wonder if there are any suitable mounting points on a Freelander??
