Bloody loft hatch just blew open. Went outside and noticed that about a dozen roof tiles had been lifted up by a gust but one had come right out and turned sideways stopping them from dropping back into place. Big Cry Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Funny how you are more aware of danger when you get older. Just put my ladders up and lashed them to the bathroom window for safety. Got up above the gutter height ........and that was as far as I dared! Managed to refit all the tiles by poking them back in place from the top of the ladder using my telescopic window cleaner thingy and pushed the last one in place from inside the loft. I didn't fancy stepping on the roof at all but when we moved into this house 23 years ago in 1990, I went up on the roof to attach my Sky dish to the chimney stack. Not only that, to tune it in I actually hoiked the satellite receiver AND a TV set up there and set it up by tuning it in and moving the dish about until I got a good picture! When it was tuned I stayed up there and watched the best part of a cricket match too! The neighbours must have thought me a nutter and I suppose I must have been. I honestly don't know how I did it. Very windy on the South Coast yesterday, through the night and this morning. Torrential rain at times as well. A few trees down on the way to work but once off the coast the wind dropped off quite quickly. The sea yesterday afternoon was as rough as I have ever seen it and walking into the wind was unbelievably hard work. Very sad incident along the coast from us when a 14 year old boy was dragged into the sea. Massive respect to the RNLI who from the news looked as if they had got their lifeboat right into the surf. Amazing seamanship that deserved the best possible result but looking at the sea he had no chance. We have a life boat station where we live and the lights were burning yesterday afternoon and the crew was obviously ready to go out if needed. Nowhere as bad as 1987 but a bit lively for 24 hours.

Yes hats off to the RNLI for there efforts, clearly putting there own lives in great danger. unbelievable efforts in what can only be explained as terrible conditions
Don't think it needs to be said but my heart goes out to the parents of the boy.
Lets just hope they manage to retrieve him

No problems down here in Cornwall. Strong(ish) winds today with sudden sharp showers but nothing exceptional. Colder than of late though, down around 10-12 degrees. Ours - 2008 Stornoway Grey HSE Auto

Incredible bravery and seamanship.

Group of kids messing about in the sea spray but who realises the dangers at that age ?

This was about 12 hours before the worst of the storm hit and the sea was worse this morning. Hopefully his body will be recovered in the coming days to help give the family some closure. _________________

Thought the same when I saw the footage

I would never dream about taking a boat out in those conditions and to do it for a 'job' Bow down Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Storm,s

Is it just me (being a self confessed Grumpy old git before anyone else say,s it !!! )

But this morning on Sky TV, some brainless twit got a presenter to stand on the beach, waves crashing in
covering the guy doing his bit to camera in spray and large waves.

(presenter did have a hood on his jacket no hat )
probable told to not wear any form of headgear,as it might "ruin the shot " of stormy rain lashed south coast ..!! shock ,horror like all of sky,s outside broadcasts don,t let safety get in the way of a good shot .
from a producer sitting in a van or studio miles away drinking lover warm coffee /cocoa..!!!
