Selling Freelander 2 Back to the Dealer for Cash

Has anyone ever sold their Freelander back to the dealer for cash? Do they give you a reasonable price?

I have had a quote from webuyanycar and their initial offer is very good (before they start with the reductions once they see it)

Selling privately would be the best option but need a deposit for a house and time may not be on my side.

Not sold a Freelander but in 2007 I had to sell my Ford Focus back to the dealer when I had to stop driving on medical grounds. I made sure I spoke to the guy who sold it to me and I got a good price with not much money lost at all (can't remember the exact figures) LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

I imagine they will simply treat it as a "trade in" less a bit.

i.e. You will get part exchange price less an amount as they won't be selling anything in return.

Nice and quick and straightforward, but you'll get stiffed on the price...perhaps even more so than WBAC.......

You might luck out - if they've got someone to sell it straight onto (i.e. A customer waiting for a specific spec that your car happens to fulfil) you might do better with the price.

My dealer has always given me 」2k-3K more than we buy any car, there are a few dealers that advertise buying cars for cash, my ones one of them although I've always traded in.

I would imagine it would be same as part ex as they still want to make a profit. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Not a freelander, but I had to sell my father-in-law's Honda CR-V after he died earlier this year.

Most of the dealers weren't interested, but found one that sold more second hand than new and they gave me 」250 over book value, presumably because they knew someone was after one and should shiift it quick.

Definitely worth shopping around if you have the time.

Yes I sold a FL2 back to the dealer when it was about 2 yrs old due to impending company car. Dealer gave me a good price in line with my expectations without too much haggling. Remember dealer still needs to make a profit...so look at dealer forecourt prices for a similar car..then take 2 to 3 K off..then that's the price you'll get.

If you can hang on until the first snow falls dealers will grab your Freely.

I sold my bike (Triumph Street) to one of the WBAB types of companies, they gave just over trade in price for it which made it an easy sale.
I tracked their website and saw it advertised at 」4995 the next day (they gave me 」3900) and a couple of days later it dissapeared?
I then found it in a dealers local to me where it still is and it's now up at 」5295

In hindsight i should have gone round a few dealers myself where i'm sure i would have got more for it - i think this would be your best bet Thumbs Up

The thing to remember when you see the car you traded in for 」x marked up to 」y is that for a start they have to pay vat on the difference, then they have to get it valeted and serviced and probably a fresh MOT and then they have to allow for a warranty. Add to that it might sit on the forecourt for a month or two so bank interest charges. It's not all profit.

Sold my 2012 HSE back to a main dealer in August, 11 months old and 31k miles on it.

It went for 」25k, which before anyone balks at, was conditional on a stonkingly good price on a MY 2013 HSE Lux of below 」30k...something that even now you cannot pick one up for. Cheapest I have seen one is around 」33k, so overall, it was a win/win situation for both parties. Foraging near Gaydon....

That's not really selling the car back to the dealer for cash though, is it?

That sounds like a straight part exchange.....or have I misunderstood?

Yes, you have misunderstood.

The car was advertised at 」34,450. I paid 」4995 as a "cost to change". Dress it up how you like, I know that my original vehicle it was sold the same weekend for 」31,995. With a bit of manipulation of figures, Dealer made a good margin, and I saved a whack as well. Everyone's a winner...petit d駛uner...mange tout Rodney, mange tout. Foraging near Gaydon....

OK. I'm obviously being thick, 'coz that still just sounds like a part exchange.

You traded in your 2012 car for a 2013 car and paid 」4995 as a cost to change. Fair enough. Sounds like a good deal.

However, the OP was talking about simply going to the dealer, handing over the keys to their car and walking away with a cheque for 」x,000.

The figure you get from the dealer in those circumstances would be different (in my opinion) to the figure you get if you're part exchanging your car against a new(er) vehicle.

But perhaps we're both talking about the same thing, but just using different words....
