Slow puncture

I have a slow puncture in my osr tyre. If I take it to Kwik Fit will they put a tube in it, or is that not an available solution these days? (No obvious damage). 2013 RR Evoque Pure Tech

I'm no expert on tyres, but it will depend where the puncture is. I had a screw through the main tread of one of mine, took it to the local tyre shop (not Kwik Fit but I suspect they'll be the same) and they repaired it in about 10 minutes for £15 or thereabouts.

Of course if you can't find the puncture it might be more difficult.

No it's not a solution these days, if it is punctured in the tread area more than likely it can be plugged but if it's sidewall then a new tyre. Of course it could just need resealing or just the valve.

Hi
As you're in Ilkley i'd recommend Alba tyres - wouldn't even think about kwik fit as they'd just want to sell you a new tyre at a silly price Thumbs Up

Another place nearby is Colemans in Otley - they do a lot of 4x4s so if you need a tyre then they'll probably be a bit cheaper

Our works van had a nail in a tyre. It was a rainy day, took it to the local Charlie browns. They said they had a problem opening the roller shutter door so could get the van in the garage. They said they couldn't take the wheel off in the car park because of their insurance. Anyway took the van to a differ tyre place and they charged a tenner for the repair. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

Part of my job is training students how to carry out a safe and correct puncture repairs to City & Guilds standards. Never have a tube fitted to a tubeless tyre. If the puncture is less than 6mm in diameter and in the central 3/4 of the tyre tread it can be repaired safely ONLY by fitting a mushroom type plug patch. Don't have it done anywhere that doesn't remove the tyre to check for any internal casing damage before repair. Don't have a permanent repair by a backstreet type garage that uses temporary get-you-home methods i.e. Gummy repair string pushed into the hole. Make sure the wheel is balanced afterwards. For a puncture repair, I'd choose Kwik-Fit over small independent tyre shops but as has been said, if it's repairable don't let them talk you into a new tyre. Expect to pay around £15- £20 for a correctly carried out puncture repair with a new valve and balance. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

At Kwik Fit now! I have used the Ilkley branch before and they seem OK. Didn't know Alba were here too.

Thanks for all the advice! 2013 RR Evoque Pure Tech

They have just confirmed it is repairable. £24.50. I have been here before (Ilkley branch) and I get the impression they are trustworthy. It all depends on the individuals. Another branch could be pants. 2013 RR Evoque Pure Tech

£24.50. That must include a nitrogen fill too. Laughing

Be interested in the final cost breakdown - puncture repair, valve, balance, nitrogen, vat etc. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Just back from Kwik Fit with same thing, slow puncture on my 'other' car.

£24.50 included Nitrogen @ £1.50 and only a half hearted attempt to sell me two new fronts but they don't stock / have Bridgestones Smile

£11.50 repair, £4.74 valve, £6.75 balance, £1.50 nitro fill = £20.42 plus £4.08 VAT

A fair price for a proper job apart from the nitrogen fill - air is 80% nitrogen anyway! Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Been years since I had a tyre repaired so I had no idea of the cost beforehand. £24.50 is ok but they didn't offer me the choice re nitrogen - hidden extra I guess.
