By the time the replacement for the Defender arrives the market will have gone elsewhere.

Not been sold in the USA for about 20 years and you can only import 20 plus year old Defenders into the USA where they go for silly money.

On a Gaydon tour group was informed the problem with the Defender is its small niche market.

I may indeed come off looking like a bit of a pr1ck here, and its not directed at you rchrdleigh!! : ) I couldnt find the article you were referring to, however, unless someone is directly quoted (ie mcgovan himself) I tend not to believe these highly speculative, sensationalist publications. Especially the Daily Mail (OMG) Right now nothing is confirmed other than the last Defender will be rolling off the line in 2015 (my reliable source at LR said May/June, and it would be a special edition, the last "vanilla defender" will be available in 2014), something we all knew back in 2011 when they managed to push (read Squeeze) through the defender by moving the DPF closer to the engine block and extend the previous deadline from 2013. (as tested by Eon in the UK) As for the mail speculating that in 2017 something else will come along that will not sport live axles and general mechanical awesomeness, well, thats a bit like saying... "I predict that during tomorrow, it will be exactly 24 hours from now" |

Would that really be it, front of a Discovery doesn't look particulary pedestrian friendly. Hung like Einstein, smart as a horse. |
