New motor; time to help me choose!

It's that time again! Time to choose a new motor Very Happy

The short list is as follows:

Evoque

+ve's
Lower tax than FL2
Nice seats
4WD
UK built
Great dealer service

-ve's
Poor boot
Poor visibility
Feels like a normal car to sit in
Entry and exit not as easy as it should be
Lots of compromises to look like a concept car
Looks silly

FL2

+ve's
4WD
Great view out, with lots of glass and proper LR driving position
Hugely practical in every way
Great dealer
Last one has proven brilliant
UK Built
Looks good

-ve's
Highest car tax
current one only returns 31mpg (I do 30-35,000 miles a year)
Don't like single optic lamps - I live in rural Cornwall and they simply won't cut the mustard.

Jaguar XF estate

+ve's
Fantastic to drive
Comfortable
Great Interior
Good dealer service
Practical
UK Built
Good MPG
Not a BMW!
Low tax
great headlamps
Great dealer
Looks a million $$$$'s

-ve's

Contract hire expensive
Serious status problems at work! (BMW's are common as muck, Jags are considered Director's cars! RESULT! Thumbs Up
RWD only (will get stuck at the first hint of snow!)

Vauxhall Ampera

+ve's
Incredibly cheap tax
Stupidly cheap to run
Incredibly quiet on the move
Able to "fill up" for free at many places.
Rare and interesting
Good to drive
Very comfortable
Looks good

-ve's
Small ish boot
FWD only
Vauxhall dealers (think service from the 1970's British Rail charm school Laughing )
Vauxhall brand

Silly question, I suppose, but what would you do?

2 Results so far, it's neck and neck between the Jag and the FL2....

You missed out a positive for FL2.
That being keeping your present private registration plate Thumbs Up Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

True.

I managed to get the use of an XF for the weekend and I loved that car! Very Happy

I took a new style 520d out before I got the FL2 and that car was a revlting in comparison to the Jag! Chalk and cheese!

Unfortunately, it also look like it should be twice the price of the BMW, which is (ironically) where the problem lies...

3 for the FL2, 1 for the Jaaag (who voted for it then?!) and the Evoque and Cavalier in last place. I can understand the Evoque languishing there, but the Chevette? Sorry, these Vauxhall names are very confusing. I think I'll just call it the Vectra from here on in....

The Evoque has left the starting block, with a score of 1!

Just the Opel Kadett following up with the wooden spoon...

Only the Jag would prize me out of my FL2. I've seen one or two estates now and I must say they do look very, very nice!

I sort of like the xf, its a bit too gaudy for my tastes unless in the right colour and toned down a bit on the exterior bling

the right colour for an xf is black all other colours do NOT suit it At work

Really don't fancy the Viva at all.
Quite probably the least eco friendly of them all when you factor in battery manufacturing which puts an awful amount of Censored in the atmosphere.
Plus, what happens to the battery when it comes to the end of it's useful life?
Not to mention helping the National Grid switching the nations lights off. Including your charger Whistle

Fine if it's a case of pollution 'not in my back garden'.
Don't think that's you though Thumbs Up Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

You're right there Greg, definitely not me. But, with CO2 output at the tailpipe of 27g/km, it drives a horse and cart through the government's own tax system for company cars. It would take my tax bill down from around £280 per month, to about £50 Shocked

Financially, there's a huge case for the Bedford Astravan.

well I had the same dilemma, except the Ampere, had an Ampere at work along with some choice others and real issues when they went wrong !

I too loved the Jag but actually it was huge, worried about dents in car parks, vision from driving seat wasn't as good as FR2

My new FR2 Manual is returning fab fuel economy ! between 38-42 mpg even buzzing along at 75+ huge difference over the Auto. Build quality appears to be improved

FR2 well tested now, evoke just looks like a hairdressers car & XF 2.2 still having teething troubles with Brake discs and DPF's
Can be hard to find good Jag dealer ! and with all the electrics you need a dealer whereas with the FR2 now specialist are Ok to deal with, even for ECU updates as independents can buy updates through Topix and load on now with pass-through technology Jaguar x-type sport gone
Jaguar x-type 2.2d sport one of my best cars ever sadly gone
Freelander 2 GS auto 2008 most unreliable ever ! gladly gone
Freelander 2 GS manual 2013 only time will tell !
