My near side front tyre is also wearing on the outside edge. Had the tracking etc checked, and all perfect. Tyre fitter said it was roundabouts!

I think I will swap the front wheels over.

Might I also suggest that a driver's ability to corner properly will also affect tyre wear.

In a nutshell: How many times have you heard someone say 'they must have lost it on the bend'?

To reduce tyre wear, especially on the edges and to corner more effectively, take the widest route/line around a bend as this means that the wheels require less turn in/ rotation of steering wheel and are therefore travelling in a straighter direction. Because the tread blocks are effectively under less cornering 'stress', the car will be better balanced ie cornering forces balanced on both outer wheels and not just the front corner (which in a fwd car will also be driving the wheels), the tyres will have more capacity to grip and will therefore be more able to travel around the bend faster. Thus the driver will be cornering not only more efficiently but possibly faster too!

ME: I have an HSE with 18" alloys but the spare is a brand new, unused (so I'm assuming this was supplied with the car) 17" steel wheel.
