A whining noise from the rear. (even when her indoors wasn't in the car) Rolling Eyes

There are so many of these being replaced, it took 3 weeks to get the replacement part. garioch43

I imagine it was a rear diff pinion bearing replaced, rather than the whole diff, it's a common and known issue.
Great news that the warranty covered it. Thumbs Up

Just out of curiosity, was it replaced by a LR Main Dealer, using genuine LR Parts? Foraging near Gaydon....

The work was done by an "approved" Land Rover garage. Greenbank 4x4 Centre, who I can highly recommend.

Invoice shows;

Exchange Rear Diff - 」490
Diff Oil - 」37.24
Haldex Oil - 」58.86
2.4 hours Labour - 」138.00

That's not a bad price on the face of it, I would have expected a 4 figure sum, still, it will keep it going for quite some time.

Glad you got it sorted, my pinion (?) bearing in diff was replaced a few weeks ago.

My 3 year manufacturers warranty expires in September, and while booking MOT at dealers this week the service dept remarked that I should get any issues sorted before it expires. I said I have another year extended Land rover warranty, so not too bothered, but she said that it's not as good as the manufacturers warranty, which can't be extended.
For example, I recently had a software update, which cured a stutter in second gear. From September, these upgrades are not covered under the extended warranty !
I asked what else isn't covered, and she produced a booklet of obvious stuff like windscreen and tyres, but there was no mention of software updates. She was adamant I would have to pay for these, despite LR telling me the extended warranty offers exactly the same cover, as the dealer has to convince LR faults aren't normal wear and tear which often involves a LR inspection, whereas within 3 years LR accept the dealers word.
So I have gone from satisfaction that most repairs are covered, to now LR being able to argue normal wear and tear. Seriously considering changing car for something new and not LR. Evil or Very Mad _________________

Is the Hypoid oil used in the Haldex unit?

Aero, all warranties these days are more of a marketing angle rather than customer care unfortunately, read other forums, lots of woe from other manufacturers with extended warranties and wear and tear issues.

I know you're right Taz but it's left me feeling a little exposed.

I absolutely love my car, and being my first LR I love the brand now, but facts are it has had the haldex sensor replaced and the bearing in the diff replaced and exhaust couplings replaced and door trims removed, soundproofed and replaced, and transmission failure and new air vent and three software updates all in the last 13 months.
Despite all that, I still love my car but I can't afford to get a newish HSE with 2 or 3 year manufacturers warranty with a couple of thousand on the clock which is the only Freelie I would want. Sad _________________
