MY12 GS TD4. The car has just over 10k on the clock. When gently setting off from rest or in slow moving traffic, the first change up is rough and causes the car to judder. There is also a mechanical noise like "kacha".

Took the car into Listers, Hereford today for a road test to try and identify the noise from rear. I was out with the technician for a good 30 minutes and the little tart behaved perfectly, and the technician. Anyway just as we returned the noise returned and was immediately thought to be the Haldex unit.

Booked in for Friday 16th. Guy on the service desk said that he hadn't heard of this problem before on the Freelander.

I have the car back now and the Haldex filter has been changed as well as old oil flushed out and new oil put in.

A bit puzzled because when I booked the car in, I asked if they knew of this problem and was told "no".

I have done 54000 miles in 2 years and the change on mine from first to second very often is rough with a graunching noise. Booked in for five days next week for a new gearbox. Fortunately coverrd by warranty. |

Hi I had just the same as all the above. Tryed main dealer and they couldn't give me an answer to the problem, Infract I would say more denied it than anything else.

Finally... Someone that says the same... I kept tell you that the grinding noise is a specific noise of the intake stream, specifically turbo and not to worry. On the Russian forum someone has listened with a remote "stethoscope" and indeed the sound was from turbo. http://www.freel2.com/forum/post187480.html#187480 As for the rough changes, when you go to the dealer, tell them to reset the box's learned data (both pre-adaptions and adaptions) and then to perform the initial relearn. If it does the same, verify the oil level. Rough changes could be given by a low oil level and generally are less pronounced after the box is warmed up. The initial relearn is below: 1. Warm up ATF to minimum of 66°C (151°F) and maximum of 110°C (230°F). 2. Garage shift: Brake applied, select N for 3 seconds. Then N to D and allow engagement of C1 for 3 seconds. Repeat 5 times. Then do the same for Reverse. 3. Gear shift: Drive 25-35% throttle to obtain 6th gear and hold 80 Km/h (50 mph). Then coast to a stop within a minimum of 60 seconds. Repeat this cycle 10 times. |

Try cleaning and re-making connection at the top of the gearbox. It's the simplest thing to try and it doesn't cost you. |
