Finland 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Ipanema Sand
A Scary gearbox/transmission issue!

Hi all!

I'm new to the forum! Just joined to report my rather scary experience with my Freelander 2 and asking if anyone else has had similar issues.

A couple of days ago I was driving my FL2 (2007, 2.2TD4, 6spd manual) at about 50 mph and suddenly I heard a single "clonk" and before I managed to stop both the front wheels locked!! I pressed the clutch and managed to roll to the side of the road. No visible damage anywhere and the engine runs fine (even if it felt like engine seizing up). However, if I release the clutch (even if the gear lever is in N) the vehicle sort of tries to reverse. So, it looks like it might have tried to engage the reverse by itself (Note! I was not touching the gear lever or clutch when this happened) !! Confused

The Landy is awaiting in queue for repairs and there is still no word what might have happened/broken down, but I'd be
happy to hear if anyone else has similar experience. Clearly this is a dangerous issue...

Cheers, Pasi

PS. How much is a replacement 6spd manual gearbox?? Crying or Very sad
