mud and ruts

Had a play on a farm track today. nothing challenging but quite a lot of muddy puddles in the road I needed to avoid (The fl2 is for keeping clean Cool) . Initially I thought 1st gear was too high a ratio as keeping a constant slow speed was difficult, every bounce in the road moved my foot slightly and caused a surge or dip in my forward speed.
So I changed to mud/ruts and what a difference, speed control was much easier as the pedal is a lot less sensitive to movement. It just felt like I was in a much lower gear allowing me to concentrate on steering rather than fine tuning the speed. Does the mud/rut setting also alter the tickover speed and/or anti stall system?

I feel mud/ruts would be useful in difficult parking manoeuvres maybe on steep slopes. Or even for complicated trailer reversing tasks (yes for van reversing to if you must Rolling Eyes )

|So that was my first play with terrain response and I was impressed, maybe not so much of a gimmick as I thought Thumbs Up .

I would have splatted through the mud but I've just spent a day power washing the concrete in front of my house and didn't want to park and wash a dirty car on my nice clean drive (does that pass as an excuse?) At work
At home

Yes, its great how mud and ruts reduces the sensitivity of the gas pedal. But would also point out the anti stall too, let the car go in first gear then take feet of everything it will make steady progress at about 3 mph up hill and down dale!

That's possibly why the screen said hill descent unavailable in mud ruts mode.
As soon as my car goes in to dealers and I get a courtesy car for a day I will learn a lot more about the fl2's mud-plugging etc abilities. Or maybe in mine when its a a bit older Laughing (and Mrs G isn't looking Whistle ) At work

Why do you say that that HDC is not available in Mud and Ruts?
I've not seen anything in the handbook suggesting that HDC is not working/or cannot be selected in M&R FREELANDER 2 TD4 SE (XS UK) IZMIR BLUE SIDE STEPS COLD PACK BI-XENON TINTED WINDOWS - AND PROUD OF HER

I will check but Im sure a warning came up on the dash! Maybe that was sand mode? It did seem strange that HDC wouldnt work with mud/ruts At work

The HDC only works in first gear on manual box so maybe you went second or two fast as it engages only at speed up to 50 Km/hour FREELANDER 2 TD4 SE (XS UK) IZMIR BLUE SIDE STEPS COLD PACK BI-XENON TINTED WINDOWS - AND PROUD OF HER

M&R mode automatically switches on HDC, it displays a mgs saying not available in this gear if your change up, and also turns off when you go too fast, then switches back on when you slow/change gear to 1st Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

And if you have an automatic gearbox and you use mud and ruts you have to use the command shift gearbox mode.

Also if the TR programmes are the same as other modern Land Rovers then with the auto box it should pull away in 2nd not 1st. How can carbon have a footprint, it has no feet?
