Nokian WR G2 - Anyone running them all year?

Still a little way off needing to change my tyres (Continental 4x4 Contact with 23k on them) but I'm considering Nokian WR G2 since they appear to be suitable for use all-year whilst being very suitable for wetter/colder weather.

I've done a quick search and found a few people using them but mostly in older posts - any more recent experiences?

Also I notice that the Nokian UK website suggests they're a winter tyre and the US website suggests they're "all-season" - presumably they will be the same compound so it comes down to how they market in different territories?

Very Happy I am also running these after ditching the useless expensive Conti's which wear out too quickly and have no grip in the ice/snow.

I had these fitted just before the snow and so far they are absolutely brilliant with about 80% more grip in snow/ice/slush, i never slid the car once. Trade off is a slightly firmer ride you expect on what is primarily a winter tyre but not a massive difference and yes you can and I intend to run all year round.

They are also slightly cheaper then the Conti's and for me so far better value for money, with tyres you don't always get what you pay for and well known brands tend keep the price high.

I am desperate to sort out new tyres and have been looking at these with the idea of running them all year as i only do 5-6 K miles per year in the FL2. However, their 'wet grip' score on the new EU rating label thingy is poor and the noise level is worse than avarage too. It is a shame because this has really put me off the tyre even though i know it gets good reviews. FL2 HSE Auto Galway Green

Yes, I run them all year round.
I did have Mich Tour HP's and i've not noticed any difference in tyre noise. Neither no problems in the wet.
The Mich tyres were very very poor in slippery conditions. The car just wouldn't stop downhill. The Nokians have transformed the car in the snow and slush. I've been driving between Shropshire and Wales thoughout the recent bad weather and not lost grip once despite some decent hills.

I'm suprised with the wear rate. I expected them to wear quickly, but i've done 20k's on them and looking at the tread i'm expecting another 20 k.

Great tyre Thumbs Up Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Any difference in MPG? Basically is there any downside?

Also where did you get yours from as I'm in the Midlands and other than the online big vendors I don't see/know of anywhere in the area that supplies and fits Nokians.

All winter tyres seem to score low on the EU Wet Grip rating, which at first seems odd, with a softer compound more tread pattern you'd think they would do better. The reason is winter tyres are subject to the same testing conditions as summer tyres and are therefore being tested outside of their intended window of operation, .i.e winter. I read that summer tyres operate effectively down to 7 degrees and winter tyres upto 11 degrees, so I don't think the EU Wet Grip rating for winter tyres is all that relevant....unless of course you intend to use them all year round, then it will be.

Interestingly, there are only a few winter tyre and wheel combinations that are actually approved by Landrover for use on the FL2. One of the 2 for an 18" wheel is the Goodyear Ultragrip + SUV which does score a C on the EU wet grip scale. FL2 HSE Auto Galway Green

Anyone using the infinity inf200 tyre? It's a cheap tyre that's made in china but is an all season tyre that is mud and snow rated. I only do 6000 miles a year. I am looking at general grabber tyres but then saw the infinity tyre. 80 quid fitted but I know you get what you pay for. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

No difference in MPG or ride quality. The is a tyre dealer in Church Stretton who used to stock 'em. Can't for the life of me remember their name, but a search on google finds HMJ tyres.

I did 30,000 miles running the Nokians all year round. They were better than the original Goodyear Wranglers in winter but when the tread was down to 4mm they were slippy in wet summer conditions. Am now running Dunlop Winter Sport and have done 20,000 miles - these tyres are excellent winter and summer and I will get 30,000 miles before the tread is down to 4mm. (PS I live North of Aberdeen so summer is a relative term) Smile Smile

So bit of a thread resurrection but I'm about at that point where I need to change.

Still considering the Nokian's so any more feedback now it's a bit warmer would be good.

After quite a bit of reading I am leaning towards the Dunlop SP Winter 3D tyres for Oct/Nov .

Thing is I really don't want to be running two sets of tyres so I'm hesitant of true winters.

I emailed Nokian who confirmed the WR G2 sold in the US as "All Year" is exactly the same as the UK "Winter" tyre, which is even more confusing, though they also confirmed it would be their recommendation for an all year tyre for the typical UK climate.
