Whining Noise

My FL2 has, for a few days, developed a whine from the rear, seemed to be near side of the car and passengers shared this view.
Yesterday a trip to Cardiff and back, about 400 miles, the whine increased and was very noticeable.
I called the garage to book it in, Hunters in Preston and was told to call LRA who will send a tech to have a look and arrange a courtesy car should he not be able to fix it there and then.
This morning the tech turned up promptly and took the car for a drive, yes he could hear the whine and proceeded to jack up the car and inspected both back wheels, a little noise was heard on both wheels, what I would describe as the shoes catching but he said the near side felt gritty and so arranged a hire car and for me to take the vehicle to the garage.
In the meantime, I received a call from Enterprise who advised they would meet me at the garage at 5pm with a car, they couldn't guarantee a LR product but asked lots of questions about what I use car for, Auto gearbox etc.
So, on arrival at the garage I booked the car in, the first thought by the service department was the rear diff bearing as being a more likely culprit, they will let me know tomorrow.
I was also recognised by the sales staff and proceeded to talk about changing, mentioned I fancied a change and liked the RRS, oh dear what have I done Laughing
Anyway, back on track, Enterprise turned up full of fawning apologies about it being a Passat and the oik went into his diatribe about collision waivers ad nauseam, so into the car, oh its got three pedals, what's this one for? His faced dropped, look I said its late, I want to go home, ring me tomorrow with a proper vehicle, I won't hold my breath as to what they come up with.
The dealer reckons it shouldn't be long as LR will be on their backs to get the courtesy car back.
So with 57,500 miles on the clock it has mechanical fault, nothing major and hasn't left me stranded so not too bothered, it's the boring Eco lump on the drive that grates, a little more than the bearing.

I will keep you posted .....

Furious now

Enterprise found an Automatic.....A Vauxhall Corsa Censored what a Censored nightmare this is turning out to be, myself and 4 family members off to a wedding tonight, my car hasn't even been looked at and once again Enterprise leave things until the 11th hour before coming up with a solution.

This is leaving a very sour taste indeed

Just had an update from Hunters, it is the diff pinion bearing that needs replacing, oh joy I might go off roading in the Passat, see how it fares, doesn't seem to be any mention of underbody damage on the forms Whistle

That's grim reading indeed Evil or Very Mad

When I took my Fez into TCH Derby recently to have a new carpet fitted to the passenger foot well (it was peeling off but all ok now), they gave me a 12 plate Fez 1.25 with 60 yes 60bhp! Had my foot welded to the floor joining the A38 and got overtaken by HGV's Rolling Eyes Laughing

At least it was a Fez for a Fez but the annoying thing was that the bloke said it might need fuel. Might! I had to do a 24 mile round trip and it said 15 miles until empty Evil or Very Mad

I gambled on the fuel and dropped it back at the garage running on vapour. The look on his face was good when I told him I hadn't put any in Mr. Green Laughing LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

That diff bearing is common at around 80,000km. Happened to mine.

To be fair, my land rover dealer has 3-4 61 plate focus courtesy cars unless you specify in good time a freely. Maybe a growing trend? 2013 FL2 - Black Edition Auto

Pentland Cupar it's a Fl2 GS you get Thumbs Up

It's enterprises duty to provide a LR, it doesn't matter how far they have to go to get it.

When I had to get a loaner they had to phone around until they found one, I may have been a bit pushy but there was no way on this earth I was leaving with a Chevrolet Matiz, i would need one for each bum cheek Laughing Enterprise said it themselves its our duty to provide you with like for like. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200
