Australia 2009 Freelander 2 i6 SE Auto Santorini Black
Forum views

I haven't posted for some months, but having been a member for about four years and, following so many helpful - and critical - posts over that time on Freel2.com, I wonder about making judgements too readily based on forums. I bought my first Land Rover, a Freelander 2, in January 2009, at a time when the Australian reputation of Land Rover was pretty dire. I was coming from owning a Subaru H6 Outback for some six years with an impeccable record: reading Land Rover forums was not too encouraging. However, the comfort and technical ability of the Freelander persuaded me to take the chance. The outcome, after four and a half years, has been to make me very happy with my choice; the car has got us from A to B without fail, in comfort and ease. Although it did require a replacement fuel pump, done under warranty, it didn't actually fail, i.e. it got us to our destination, albeit with a few stutters. Its distance is 130,000 kms - 80000 miles, so I would say pretty good. The follow on from this is that I have also just bought a Mk7 VW Golf 90TSI DSG, replacing a very reliable Honda, at a time when VW are having a very hard time in Australia over reliability, particularly on VW forums. Admittedly, the car has only done 3500 kms - 2200 miles - but I find it a gem, and totally different from the impressions given by so many people posting on the forums. It - so far! - follows on from my Freelander experience: be guided by your own feelings and overall experience. Some cars can be a lot better than some people would have you believe.

England 2012 Freelander 2 SD4 Sport Auto Barolo Black

My wife used to have a Renault laguna 2 which really came under attack for various issues , ours in 5 1/2 yrs of ownership was fantastic , needless to say we now have a laguna 3 which really is fabulous and now my daily driver now that she has her FL2 , we've also had numerous Citroens over the years and not had any problems with them but people always say that they are trouble and you must have problems with the suspension ?!?! Laughing .

Idea When everything is going fine, you use to enjoy driving, but if not.... posting in a forum is a chance to have an answer... Yuri

I think you make a good point and if one read this forum and concluded it reflected the Freelander owner's experince no-one in their right mind would go near a Freelander!

The truth is though that this an amazingly good place to share problems and get help from other owners. It follows that the vast majority of posts are about problems!

It really shows just a tiny proportion of Freelander owners experience, as said above, if you don't have a problem you never write on a forum asking for help.

This forum helped me decide to buy a Freelander and has helped me with a few problems that my car experienced if I had believed the stuff here was the sum total of the Freelander experience I would have bought another BMW!!
