Harwoods ripping me off ? Paying for airbag warning light

Hello

Took my freelander 2 (2010 model) to the repair shop to repair a small scrape on the wing an door. I claimed on the insurance and insisted that I wanted Harwoods the offical dealer to carry out the work.

A insurance inspector came out and took a look, agreed the costs and asked if the air bag went off, I said no because it was a scratch and low impact. He checked this when noting the milages (21000) and noted that there was no warning lights.

3 weeks later my car has been repaired, but failed the MOT, due to an airbag warning light. They call me Friday and tool me, i need to pay £500 to get the airbag harness replaced.

I'm confused as there was no light on when i took the car in, they have removed the door and coincidentally the light has gone off and mugging here has to pay......

Any advise people ?

Try obtaining, if you don't already have, a copy of the insurance assessors report. As you said, he noted that the airbag warning light was not illuminated prior to the dealer repair. I think the dealer would also have a copy of this report prior to you getting the repair done?

Not quite sure what would be involved in the bodywork repair; door has obviously been removed as you state so door wiring harness would have been disconnected for sure. Maybe this disconnection/reconnection has thrown up the airbag light. I presume the MOT and repair were done at the same time? Have you tried the hard reset - this seems to cure a lot of faults reported on the forum?

The repair was completed then I paid for a service and MOT.

I brushed agaist the side of one of those metal bollards that stop you parking on the pavment. Low impact and low speed. It was only consmetic really, but I wanted to get it sorted.

They have done a reset but the light came back on. I just cant believe they are trying to make me pay ?

After the repair, did you get to see the car? Or did they repair, then, service the car and carry out its MOT all in one go

Is it a airbag harness in the door? Or somewere else?

If its is say the steering wheel or somewhere they have not fiddled with then It sounds like just common bad luck, if its a door airbag and just so happens to be the door they worked on them push for them to repair due to faulty goods or workmanship Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Does anyone know what the airbag harness is ? Can I order one from elsewhere.

My car is sitting there, and has been for 2 weeks now. Tried Firday/yestarday and this morning to speak to the manager and keep getting "not avavilble at present, he'll call you back ASAP"

i am guessing that each airbag will have a harness, to hold it in place

you'll need to know what airbag has failed

maybe try our sponsor Dan @ duckworths, with your VIN he will be able to order any part Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

It sounds like it is a wiring 'harness' i.e. the wiring to / from the airbag/s. They could have damaged it whilst removing the door and it is easier for them to replace it than fault find the damaged wire / connector. However, it may just be a coincidence.........

My diff / drivetrain was inspected and tested by a main dealer due to rear end noise a few months back and declared ok and then 3 weeks later I had to shell out £200 for a diff output shaft boot replacement due to boot damage .......... FL2 HSE Auto Galway Green
