United Kingdom 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 Dynamic Auto Fuji White

My MY13 never seems to blow properly hot either, with the dial turned up to full heat and full fan, its only warmish, and its imposibble to get the car to uncomfortably hot. My MY10 had no such problems and was much warmer overall. Mentioned this to the dealers who supposedly tested it, but declared all was fine.

Not too bothered over the summer obviously, but will be insisting they hav a proper look next time its in for service. Fuji White MY13 SD4 Dynamic

2013 Black manual heating not working

Hi all,
Our Freelander 2 Black has been parked at the dealership since mid May, It has been messing about since we got it new on March 1st 2013, the heating system has failed, we have been told by Landrover that there ia a software fault and they are waiting for a technical fix from Landrover technical services.

The symptoms are very poor heating, you really think your going mad, is it heating or not? Or you get max heating or cooling without being able to stop it. Does this sound familiar?

To be fair the dealer involved has been very helpful if a little embarresed, but they have given us a R R Evouqe to play with till it's fixed.

As the weather has warmed up I have not really noticed much of an issue with MY Black 2013 but I must say when we get to the Winter months I will keep a watchful eye. It would be nice if LR were actively investigating this generic concern to see if there is an issue particularly with comments stating a particular controller software issue and gave us some feedback on the forum as there seem to be a few customers that are genuinely concerned with the heater performance on the LR. I wonder if this is something Liam from LR could take away to investigate. Question e-melnow

Hi All

Newbie to the forum but recent events have compelled me to sign up.

Took ownership of a new 2013 Black Edition in 1st March and have had intermittent problems with the temperature control dial, after several weeks and a number of visits to the servicing department LR finally acknowledged the fault. To date they have been unable to confirm a fix and this lead to me successfully rejecting the car through the dealer.

I collected a new 2013 White Edition on saturday (22/06/2013), only to find the same fault on this car. It is currently sat with the dealer who have assured me that the fix will be ready in the next 48 hours and is in the finally stages of testing. They have provided me with a courtesy car for the next few days and hope to confirm the fix eraly next week. If the fix is not ready I will be rejecting this car also and will look to another manufacturer.

Please all be aware that this is a known fault. The temperature control fails to operate correctly and will either become fixed on 1 specific setting or will go either extremely hot or cold. This only affects the Black & White Edition vehicles from what I can tell, and clearly affects both the initial run of 600 vehicles that were released together with the new run that has just hit the showrooms.

Hope this helps

Hi thanks for the feedback it is very interesting. If there is any LR reference that this issue is logged against for the 2013 BLACK/WHITE Model that would help others. I am assuming there must be one that they are investigating against but not sure if it will be openly known at this point. It would be really helpful or just feedback on how things progress. As if there is a manufacturing defect with the heater I guess people would like their one checked out as a minimum if they have concerns and put right if indeed if it will cause issues on that vehicle. e-melnow

Hi

I haven't been passed the LR reference as all my dealings have been with the dealer principle. The dealership told me in May that LR are aware of the fault and are working on a fix, initially they expected a fix within 3 weeks but this doesn't appear to have materialised. When I dropped my new car off at the dealership this morning the principle told me that He had spoken to LR today and that they have said the fix is in the final stage and will be rolled out in 48 hours. I don't believe this for a second, however my wife is scheduled to go into hospital tomorrow for the birth of our second child, hence why I have taken the dealers offer of a courtesy vehicle to see me through to next week at the earliest.

I will update you on how matters progress, however the keys things members should do, in my experience are:

1. Write to the dealer principle (manager) outlining the fault and reserving their right to reject the vehicle under the sale of goods act.

2. Allow a period of 21. Days for the fault to be rectified.

3. If after the end if this period seek to reject the vehicle via the dealership.

Please all not that a formal rejection should go via the dealership, there should be no reason to have to discuss the matter direct with LR.

I would also add that my dealership (Guy Salmon), have been incredibly helpful throughout and do appear to be equally frustrated with LR as I am.

Wonder if Liam or any of his colleagues could keep on eye on this thread for us and give us the nod when the fix appears? Be this software or a component replacement? I've had this fault on occasions but restarting the engine wakes the dials up!! 2013 FL2 - Black Edition Auto

On the first car I rejected it started out as very intermittent, perhaps less than 10% of the time, and yes, restarting the ignition rectified the problem, however, it started to happen far more frequently, in the end more than 50% of the time and restarting the ignition didn't always rectify it when it started to happen so frequently.

Bear in mind as well that owners only have a 'reasonable' period in which to reject a vehicle, by writing to the dealership you protect yourself should you wish to reject your faulty £20k + vehicle.

I've had mine since last December and to be fair, I wouldn't reject, I'm sure LR will issue a fix at some point.

Will keep my eye out for a fix......not sure how it will be advertised though..... 2013 FL2 - Black Edition Auto

Just received my car back from the dealer who advised that the fix had been applied and working correctly. They are due to call me in a weeks time just to check that there are no further problems.

I had the heater checked by my Local dealer about 6 weeks back as experiencing noticable issues with blower stuck on hot now the winter was drawing in again. Turning the temperature dial to blue has no impact. Only after turning the engine off then back on would it start blowing cool. The dealer could not find an issue at the time even though I suggested it was a known issue from the forum and their clear was to reset the heater “not sure how this was done”.
Anyway one the last trip with heater problems I managed to get all the occupants in the car winding down the windows when the heater was stuck on hot again and found somewhere safe to pull up and turn the engine off/on whilst the control had been moved to cool . As if by magic cooler air again and we were off abet more comfortable.
I have booked the car back into the dealership and also contacted an very helpful lady in L/R customer relations as I am convinced this has been a problem from new although intermittent and really only comes to the attention in the colder months when using the highter temp settings as well as cool. I am hoping L/R will liaise with the local dealer and give instruction on how to permanently address the problem. L/R did seem genuinely concerned about my problem so I am hoping I will get a final resolution when the car goes in for inspection next week as an intermittent but v annoying issue that I have lived with from day one although because it is intermitant and only v obvious when heater control on MAX it passes as unnoticeable in the summer months. .

Thanks to L/R and the local dealer my heater issue is now fixed. L/R assisted in bringing item Q349 to the dealerships attention, relating to Low Line HeVAC control module software problem. The fix was to upgrade this software with a new version.
Thanks L/R for very helpful assistance once contacted to get this resolved . Very Happy e-melnow
