2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Galway Green
Towing electrics

The saga continues.
Yesterday, I took my freelander into my local Indespension dealer, which I had pre booked over a week ago, to change my 12n & 12 s sockets, for a 13 pin euro socket. Booked in for 14.30, I arrive at 14.15, speak to reception guy, hand over my keys, then it doesn't move for 55 minutes. When they do start work on it, the mansger says, the securing bolts are too rusted to get off, we'll have to drill them. Then Young lad comes along with a cast on his left arm/ hand, & proceeds to use an air powered slitting disc to cut through the bolts, without having time to raise any concerns, he merrily starts hacking away, & remember the cast on his left arm, slips & cuts a gouge into my bumper too.
So I tell the manager what he's done, & he just walks off.
Next the lad starts riving on with a screw driver, & eventually gets them off, then disappears, so I'm left there, with all the wiring now hanging loose off the car.
Eventually, the manager comes back, & he takes over the job of putting it back together, & while being too busy talking to me, cuts one of the wires off as he said it's not needed, only to realise 2 minutes later, he had got the wiring mixed up, & did need it.
Anyway the 1 hour job I was quoted, took them 4 hours, needless to say, they didn't charge me for their incompetance, but I now need either a new bumper, or a smart repair, which they are paying for.
I just got the feeling, they were a bunch of amateurs!

why settle for a smart repair, get them or their insurers to pay for a new bumper and new set of towing electrics, all those joins might let water in and you might get problems in the future

Also name and shame them Confused Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Well, I went to my dealer on a warranty issue, and while there, I asked about a repair on the bumper, or the cost for the replacement, and was I shocked,

Labour = £189.00
Paint = £250.00
Parts = £380.67
EPA = £ 10.00
Plus vat=£995.60

They(Indespension) are in for a shock when I go see them, as dealer said, they would not guarantee a smart repair, as they would not be confident it would last!

So this afternoon, I visited my caravan, and pluged in the 13 pin socket,and guess what? yes you all guessed it, they don't work!!

So, when I returned home, I took the fitting apart, and armed with some diagrams from the internet, I started looking at what was where,now at this point, I have to say, Land Rover colour schemes, are different to what I had printed off, however, I have found at least 5 other diagrams with different colours, but as yet, none have matched mine.
I did though establish, they had wired the permanent live into the spare point which is not used, which might explain why the fridge didn't work, but I'm still stuck because of the colours.

Has anyone experienced this themselves, and can help me please?

Yes well I'm going to see them on Tuesday when the manager is back in. On the up side, I've got the wiring all sorted now thanks to Gecko posting the whole diagram of a freelander on here, so that was very helpful. I did establish though from the correct diagram, that they had placed the ignition live where it should have been an earth, and the permanent live in the spare pin, and the 2 earths where they should have been live. Clearly their training program leaves a lot to be desired!

There are no real problems changing to a 13pin socket from 12N and 12S. For those not particularly technical but are handy DIY ers, you just need a bit of preparation. Make a diagram of the LR wire colours and their function from the 12N&S sockets then transpose them onto the 13pin socket diagram, after that take your time and check twice. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis
2012 HSE SD4 In Orkney Grey now gone, best car ever.
