2013 Freelander 2 SD4 SE Auto Fuji White
New Si4 turbocharged petrol engines and fuel consumption

Question So I am experienced in all sorts of Landy's, from Series II onwards right up to the TDi Defender 110 CSW and I am now ready to order my FL2 SD4 but now the new Si4 petrol engined models have caught my eye.

I am no off-roader but do travel on bad dirt roads from time to time, in South Africa and neighbouring countries. The trusty Defenders are a bit rough on my ageing body and the reason to scale down to FL2 purely is for comfort, nothing else.

The Diesel models seems to be quite frugal but I did not even consider the former 3.2 litre six cylinder model. Are there any members who own the new Si4 petrol models and who can comment? Anyone not an onwer but with first-hand experience on these?

I also would like to downgrade wheels to 17" as well, to have more rubber and avoid too many punctures.

Censored If only the Defender was more user friendly............................. Censored

Unfortunately, the Si4 derivative is nt available in the UK....(yet), so it's doubtful that you will get much of a response from members on here. Foraging near Gaydon....

Maybe you should send a PM to G4LAND. He owns a 2013 Si4, but I don't think that he has driven a diesel FL2. Thumbs Up

What diesel mileage can I expect from a SD4 SE/HSE? I drive with circumspection and open road cruising usually is below 120km/h or 75mph. I have not yet ordered mine; have decided to wait a bit.

I saw the new Disco4 XS with coil springs and this has complicated my buying decision as I started out looking at a new Defender 110 CSW. Then I started looking around........

How much do you pay for petrol and diesel?

Both Petrol and Diesel are about ₤0-75 per litre so very roughly about ₤3-60/gal. Unleaded is everywhere but ULSD <50PPM only in major centres. Tank range is important to both as each has its own threats. Petrol = heavier consumption and Diesel = not always available although LR can use 500ppm in Africa. I just prefer 50ppm or better.

Hi, Thumbs Up yes I'm driving an SI4 in Mexico, but as you can see in my profile, I live part time in Mexico and Spain. I have driven a Td4, but not the SD4.
SI4 is really smooth, silently, "powerful" ( except the first few meters from stop, around  1.5 seconds lag)  Compsumition is quite well,  the average is around 11L/ 100km Laughing Laughing measures.... (Mix consumption)! Almost like my D5 Volvo XC70...
For me:
SI4 vs TD4: SI4 for sure!
SI4 vs SD4... I haven't try, but could be SD4 Censored Yuri
